From my readings, the Mini has specialized boats and the Contessa 26 would be to heavy for that race and the Vendee is a big boat race, so I would get training on a larger boat then a 26 footer. MacArthur did her first race in an open 60, a very big boat. You might want to follow her foot steps on becoming a racer. The Jester (JR Contessa 26) was in the Trans-Atlantic races in the 1960's/70's and did good but today boats are much faster. Just FYI

Okay, When I make a posting (actually an edit)in this folder it is to the actual Contessa Listing I made on page 1 (see bottom of this table and you will the last edit date). I list whomever I just updated there, this way I do not fill up this folder with lots and lots of Thank You's for finding me new data for my Contessa Listing for both JJT and JR boats. I hope this helps out.

On your wintering of your boat, is it at any on the marinas in Rockland area? I am on Islesboro and did look around the ferry landing marina to see if I saw a contessa 26 on a stand when I first got here. I like to see the contessa 26 underside.

I have to say that I have been impress with your Contessa 26 as I have you photos of it hanging up on my wall at work, especially the one on the Cradle Ride. I tell my co-workers that I hope to buy this type of sailboat someday when my job situation gets settled.

There is a book "My old Man and Sea?" that was about father-son trip around the Horn in their 25' sailboat they built. It is an interesting story and they did not have too much trouble getting around the Horn. One has to get around the Horn before the end of January.

I did JJT because there were far more of them. I love to JR if I could find them (I know of only 3 or 4 of them), even in Europe beside in North America. I will start looking into this. Maybe a list by Year and Marina-City would work.
Update: I did add the few JR to the location listing at the bottom.
On SMH note on sail# is good but what the sail number does for the listing tell us when each of the boat was constructed, though this is not alway true. Beside the sail number helps sort out the listing.

The location table above was updated yesterday with the latest information plus the year column was moved in front of the Sail Number. Due to this program, was unable to create columns to make everything easier to read.

smh - It is interesting to sometime see the difference between the SN and Year for I can a feeling what was going on the construction line. What I will do is flip the SN and Year columns. Still what is interesting is the boat in Mexico with the SN 86E15138 built in 1985.

smh, thanks for infor and your boats info. It seem that boat #125 is out of place with its year of contruction, 1974.
To admin person, is there anyway to displace this infor in a spreadsheet for others to look over? I have at present 42 rows on JJT26 info or about 10% of the JJT boats constructed.

This past weekend I had the honor of seeing and sailing on Dennis Gray's Contessa (#248) on Mobile Bay 26 in 25 knot winds (small craft advisory was up). We were one of two sailboat out that morning. I got the feeling that this sailboat enjoyed this rough condition, even after Dennis had stated this was Contessa weather. Hopefully my job situation will settles down soon, I can start the search to find one to own and sail.
Anyway, I was wondering if there was anyway this board could develop a spreadsheet or something that people could visit that would list owners Contessa 26 hull number, if Canada JJ Taylor or British made, home port, and boat's name (if it has one). Dennis had made the comment that every harbor he had visited he has seen a Contessa. I now know of three location and wonder how true his statement was. I would think others would be interesting as they were cruising around also. Just a thought.

I have just finished reading "The Folkboat Story" (interesting reading) which has a short section (4-5 pages) on the Contessa 26 history. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew if the first Contessa 26, model 001, is still active or not. Also, what was the last model # built. The interesting part is that the famous model 324 (Tania Aebi) was given to 2 Contessa 26, so the final model number may not be the total built which has been quoted at 400.

I was wondering, where or how did you find this Contessa? I look on the Pocket Cruiser listing but I have not seen a 1984 listed in the last few months. I wonder if that listing is ever updated or nothing ever seem to sell.
