Oliver, could you email me the names of the companies you contacted?

Any of you had your boat towed? How far did you have her moved? What did it cost? Who did the moving for you?

Hey guys,

I've been contacted by Fiona Rogers, who is looking for Contessa stories from this side of the pond. If you guys have anything, can you email them to me at info@co26.com? Be sure to include your names.

Thanks!

My boat had a garboard plug. So did Jose's as I recall. I thought they came  that way from the factory.

A forward rod might cause issues with a genoa. I think you'll find that any light that isn't significantly wider than the spreader bar shouldn't cause any additional chaffing of the main when running.

And then question whether the bilge is the best place for the batteries in the event of water up to the floorboards?

I never had one for my diesel powered boat, but my Dad had one on his OMD saildrive equipped Hughes 31.

I don't think diesels need a blower, but I am happy to be corrected.

Yeah, I think the smallest they offer is a two cylinder now.

The Beta 13(?) seems to be the ideal choice for repowering a Contessa now. Small, light, quiet, fuel efficient.

But I like the chunk-chunk-chunk of a one-lung diesel!

It's very sad that the Bounty went down, with the loss of one, and likely two hands. I do wonder, however, what she was doing out there. It's not as if this storm sprung up out of nowhere. Does anyone know the details?

The forecast is for 7 meter (23 foot) waves in the Great Lakes from Hurricane Sandy. Bet everyone's glad to have their boats out of the water. I hope the 100km/h winds don't topple any Contessas.

Thats what I told him too. Risk to the rudder and the prop shaft. Not sure what they're going to do to lift that boat if they can't get a belt under her.

I just finished reading this. In fact, the reason the rest of you can't get it at the library yet is because I haven't returned it yet!

It was quite enjoyable. Made me really respect the design, and in fact made me really want to see a Folkboat in person. It's that damned sliding companionway and bridge deck! The only faults in the Contessa, in my opinion.

He said he would join, once the boat is out of the water and he's at his sisters house. Apparently he had a laptop, but it got soaked, leaving him without access. Leaks are one of the things he's planning on fixing during this overhaul.

He also said he hopes to be able to join us at one of our association gatherings at some point.

If anyone else has questions for Paul, let me know, since I am, at asome point, going to interview him and do a front-page article about him, the boat, and his lifestyle.
