SMALL CRAFT SURVEY

Report Number: 042508
Date of Inspection: AUGUST 25, 2004
Survey commissioned for: ADRIAN LEBAR
Location of survey: ALEXANDRIA YACHT CLUB TORONTO

GENERAL:

Type of Vessel: CONTESSA 26 SAILBOAT
Name of Vessel: KEFI
H.I.N.: ZJT033221084
Registry Number: 50E 05881
Year of Mfg.: 1984.
MODEL YEAR 1985

Hull type: FULL KEEL SAILBOAT
Disp.: 5,400 lb.
LOA: 26’
Beam: 7’ 6”
Draft: 4’ 3”

In water or Ashore: ON LAND

General area in which vessel will be used: GREAT LAKES & INLAND WATER WAYS

The surveyor has made neither weight calculations nor measurements. All dimensions and weights are from manufacturers published specifications, Transport Canada Vessel registry and/or USCG documentation Registry.

SCOPE OF SURVEY:

This report is issued strictly without prejudice subject to the condition of the vessel being ascertained from a general visual examination on shore / in water, without invasive or destructive testing, making removals, opening parts normally concealed, or testing for tightness. The survey is intended to locate any such defects as may be apparent at the time by visual and non-destructive inspection only within the limitations of visual and physical accessibility. Electronic and electrical equipment where already connected is tested by powering up only. A complete analysis of the vessels electrical systems would require the services of a qualified marine electrician. Only the external visual condition of wiring, connections and panels is reported.

The surveyor recommends that a qualified marine mechanic inspect all engines, generators, transmissions, and drives. Standing rigging is inspected from deck level only and unless documentation is provided to prove otherwise is assumed to be original equipment. Sails and canvas are not laid out for inspection and are accepted to be in a condition of normal wear and tear relative to their age.

The surveyors recommendations are based upon Canadian Coast Guard Collision Regulations, Transport Canada Small Craft Standard TP1 332, NFPA 302 Fire Protection Standard for Commercial and Pleasure Motor Craft and American Boat & Yacht Councils Standards and Recommended Practices For Small Craft. A 100% accurate survey to these standards would require the vessel to be totally disassembled and is not within the scope of this survey. This survey is an opinion of the surveyor based on his knowledge and experience. Within these parameters the surveyor will report on the structural integrity of the hull and deck, vessel systems, running gear, cosmetic condition and provide a valuation based on the foregoing.

A test run is not included as part of the survey inspection. If the boat is afloat, operation of propulsion & auxiliary machinery & the steering is observed in a static mode only. If the boat is ashore, no machinery is operated. Boats in a state of winter lay-up preclude operation of winterized systems.

The survey neither includes nor implies any certification that the materials and construction methods meet any known standards. The surveyor cannot predict how the vessel will perform over time and it is the builders responsibility to warrant the fitness of their product for it’s intended use and the surveyor does not assume any portion of that warranty.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHERE NUMBERS APPEAR IN BRACKETS, I.E. ( 1 ) IT MEANS I HAVE MADE A RECOMMENDATION IN THE RECOMMENDATION SECTION ON THAT ITEM.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Recommendations not noted as being required by a specific authority are in the opinion of the surveyor, good marine practice.

ITEMS DESIGNATED WITH AN “ A “ DO NOT REQUIRE ATTENTION EXCEPT FOR COSMETIC PURPOSES.

ITEMS DESIGNATED WITH A “ B “ ARE ITEMS THIS SURVEYOR BELIEVES SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE DONE AT SOME POINT.

ITEMS DESIGNATED WITH A “C “ ARE SERIOUS OR AGAINST ABYC, CCG OR OTHER STANDARDS & NEED TO BE RECTIFIED.

A (1 ) A PRODUCT SUCH AS CAPTAIN TOLLY’S CREEPING CRACK CURE CAN BE USED TO SEAL COSMETIC CRACKS TO PREVENT WATER GETTING INTO THE FIBERGLASS.

C ( 1) THIS PIECE SHOULD BE REPLACED AT WINTER HAUL OUT.

C (2) CCG REQUIRES INSTALLATION OF G.F.I.C. ON VESSELS

C (3) ABYC REQUIRES BATTERIES TO BE SECURED IN A MANNER TO ALLOW NO MORE THEN ½” OF MOVEMENT & TO BE IN COVERED BOXES OR TO HAVE RUBBER CAPS INSTALLED OVER THE +VE TERMINALS.

C (4) ABYC STANDARDS REQUIRE A FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM, OR, A PORT JUST BIG ENOUGH TO DISCHARGE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER INTO THE ENGINE AREA WITHOUT OPENING THE COVER BE INSTALLED.

** PLEASE NOTE THAT ABYC & NFPA RECOMMENDATIONS ARE STANDARDS & NOT MANDATORY CODES. **
