Good suggestion but I've actually tried them. Some of the hardware is the same, not all of it. Unfortunately the stanction bases on the British version aren't the same (square bases I believe) .

Does anyone know where to find the original cast aluminum stanchion bases or good replacements?
I bought what I thought was a suitable stainless replacement but when I went to install it late in the spring I realized it was ever so slightly off. I had to overdrill the holes, and the quality has proven to be poor this season. So now I'm looking again.

Wow, this thread proves that I definitely have something to look into. I just got a 79' Canadian contessa with a 97' Yanmar 1gm10. The engine runs great and definitely gets up to the proper RPMs (although I never go above 3000) but I'm only getting 3.5kt max. I actually haven't seen the underside of the boat myself so maybe I'll take a dive next time i'm on the boat and see what's down there...
