hi all,

my boat has a non-working depth sounder, the owner saying it is a 'suspected transducer' - is there a way to test this theory out without going to all the trouble of replacing it? i'm no expert on these things, but it appears as though the current transducer reaches down through the hull and comes out as a flat spot underneath. is this an 'old style' of transducer? i was under the impression the transducer was a 'patch' that was glued and didn't require any modifications to the hull. the current one appears as though it has been there for a long time, and i'm thinking maybe it is time to just leave it there and get a new system?

on that note, as this is a train of though post - there is a new speed log 'wheel' sitting in the draw of the boat, and i'm wondering if the transducer has to come out in order to replace it? unfortunately i am no where near the boat to pop down and check these things out, i'm just trying to remember how i last saw it...

thanks! nick
