Welcome aboard Barry. I got my Contessa on my retirement April 30 of last year. Unlike yours my boat had been somewhat neglected but I managed to have a wonderful time last summer. I spent a lot of time to get to know the boat and the FORUM has helped a lot. I did get rid of a lingering fuel odor thanks to thorough scrubbing and to a suggestion to replace the passive vent by a solar powered fan vent which works day and night...thanks again Christopher. I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of a new set of sails and as I am writing this I have a cloth soaked with Interlux2316 reducer taped to the hull to test for paint compatibility with Interlux Perfection 2 part. If ok I will paint topside before launching. I sail mainly in the Bay des Chaleurs New Brunswick Canada and the lower St-Lawrence Quebec.
Take care and have a good summer. Guy

I will be replacing wiring in the mast. Any suggestions on limiting the vibration. I've read about ti-wraps every few feet, foam taped around wires. Any comments?

Thanks for all the info. My mate will surely be happy to see me put my gift certificate towards a solar vent.

Hi Christopher,
Needed some measurements of my own so while I was under the tarp I got yours. Distance on deck is 9ft 7in. Unfortunately my mast is not up so I can not get the measurement where the boom would cross over although I think you would have room since the shrouds angle back to the mast.

Acquired nu. 305 May 2009 and enjoyed a great season of sailing. FESSALO being an older boat I tolerated a certain amount of fuel odor. However I replaced the kerosene Force 10 which leaked a bit. The smell persisted. Checked the fuel tank for leaks...it was ok. I noticed however that it was not vented to the original vent leading outside on port side. I presume that some previous owner had trouble with water entering the tank while on a lean. Would this be possible. The vent tubes were redirected to the engine compartment. I believe that this is the source of the odor filtering through to the cabin. Any advice on how to correct this?
I'm new to this forum and I've learned a lot going through all the corresponce. Thanks  a lot and keep up the good work.
