The door to my head was removed by a previous owner and lost. Anyone who might know where I can get one, please let me know.
If someone can provide me with the measurements, I may try building one out of some teak for the rails and stiles and marine ply for the center panels; my best estimate is 48" high x 22"" wide.

I have that same Vetus 25L tank. I'd love to hear what those nice looking brass fittings are.

More than likely installed for grounding the mast for lightning strikes. It likely had a heavy-gauge wire running from the mast base to that copper strap.

Re: Gauge of shrouds and stays? (2 replies, posted in Technical)
I'm guessing you've got your answer by now, but if not, the shrouds/stays are 3/16".

Re: Pre-1980 vs post-1980: How do they compare? (1 replies, posted in Cruising)
Doesn't look like anyone responded, so I'll take a shot. Any of the additions to the later model boats wouldn't make a difference as far as feel goes in my opinion. The lead keel allowed an unnoticeable 1" increase in head room and dropped the center of gravity of the keel by 1", but still unnoticeable in my opinion.
Interesting to note that the many if not most of the pre-1980 boats that I've seen, have had most of these later additions (skylight, anchor locker, etc.) added at some point.

Re: Repower my 86 Contessa (3 replies, posted in Repairs/Modifications/Upgrades)
What is the nature of the problem and have you looked into a repair?
If un-repairable, used inboards can be had inexpensively sometimes if you keep your eyes open. They are not very difficult to install.
An outboard installed on a transom mount might be less desirable if you sail in bluewater.
