Stefan
you mentioned registering the vessel?  is this a way to escape taxes of 15%? Is there any way?  Not sure it matters now as an individual overseas has made an offer on the boat and it is likely sold.  Buying our first sailboat is exciting but a little nerve wrecking as well.
thanks for the posts everyone.
If you know of any other contessa's for sale drop an e-mail scombden@hotmail.com
thanks

Hello again

The seller was pretty much set on getting 24,000 for the boat.  The survey was great, a few small cracks in the deck gel coat, interior excellent, only down was the main sail which will need to be replaiced in the next 1-2 years.

It appears that taxes are mandatory here in Newfoundland for used sailboats, and the retail sales tax is 15%.  A final cost of 27,600.....  unfortunatly that seems a little high.

Any of you have experience with taxes on used sailboats?  Any way around it?  Seems crazy for a boat to change hands 4 times and each time 15% sales tax applied.

thanks again
