Just bought a Contessa. The registration says the HIN starts with CFZ which leads me to believe the original HIN is covered/removed/etc (can't find it in the normal place). We're going under the assumption it's a JJ Taylor version - apparently the forestay is a big indicator (ours is attached forward on a tang).

But I've been reading the forums and saw someone posted that there's a difference between the sail specs for the JJT and the CO. Our sail # is CO 98 and there's a CO in the sheer stripe on the bow. What does this indicate? Thanks!

Hi all,

So glad to see there's a strong support system for Contessa owners, especially since we just bought one! The title lists the HIN starting with CFN which is a classification for homebuilt boats, which this doesn't appear to be. This leads me to believe that one of the PO's just couldn't find the HIN. They're normally located somewhere on the transom but I couldn't find one there. Any suggestions?

I'm sure we'll be picking your collective brains a lot over the next months. Thanks!
