I think you are on to something here Christopher! That seat looks good. I am going to do some measuring, to see how big it can be. I don't even have a door that closes the head area! Maybe I can tackle that at the same time.
Cheers.

Hi Marc I have a lot of petter parts , but no flywheel.
I repowered to Yanmar 1gm10 , and am happy with it, I looked at Kubota because of the 2 cylinder, and it would still fit, but got a used Yanmar for half the price.
If you don't know what to do with the Petter I'll take it since nobody is interested in the parts I have, I want to make a biodiesel generator. Let me know , Peter

I rebedded 2 of them on my 74 , and added a backing plate, they were just bolted all the way through the liner, upon fastening it did create a stress crack in the liner underside. Are you talking about the ones aft where you have to go into the lockers? Mine has 2 circular access hatches (about 5 inches diameter) to get to those.

Thats the way mine is too Christopher, all exposed, but I do like that idea. I also use a laptop, but still like a "working area" and paper charts. Maybe a removable seat between the galley and sink facing aft and a nav table that swings out from over one of the berths?

I am thinking of cutting one of the quarterberths and put a table/nav area .
Has anyone tried this? Is there enough legspace? Would it be structurally unsound?
If the table is removable , the sleeping area could still be used.
Just thinking,

Well Branwyn made it out in the Pacific after 9 years on the hard (I only had her 1 1/2 of those).
A great entrance it was after leaving the channel out of Mission Bay and facing the 6 to 8 foot swell/waves of a Low to the North, I was faced with the problem of putting up sails with the wind 90 degrees to the waves and no self steering. I did not want to put her broadside to these waves and then leave the cockpit as it was my first try at doing this alone. So here it is , I am looking for input for the novice singlehander in windy or wavy conditions. Where do I run my lines, what kind of self steering, how to put up sail in a blow without being hove to etc.
Thanks all, this forum really helped a lot.

Thanks for the input guys, I replaced the flax and put the moldable dripples in between with the boat in the water.
Worked perfectly, no water came in att all, imagine that. Now it runs nice and cool and does not drip at all.
Thanks again.

Thanks Steve, I actually have that book, but didn't read the whole thing yet......
I should be able to get this done, when the motor was installed I wasn't there when he did the stuffing box, he must have used the old stuffing to fill it up.
Thanks again,
Peter

Ok that sounds good, can I repack it without taking it out of the water? Is there a tutorial on that somewhere?
Thanks for the input guys.

When installing a "new" used yanmar I used my old stuffing box with a rubber? hose and no grease inside but fabric of some sort..
The screw on part gets kind of hot after tightening it so it doesnt leak too much. How hot should they be? I can still rotate the propshaft with my hand. Is there an alternative to this type? I saw somebody grease theirs once, and he did not have any drips from it. Is there a seal to be put on without removing the shaft?
Thanks,
Peter

Foremost insurance co cannot find JJ Taylor in their database, is there another name people use?
My problem is also my Hull Identification Number starts with WMP  , the database comes up with west marine, who apparently uses that one for inflatables now, anyone else had this problem?

AB1W ? is what the book says that comes with it.
I have most parts to built a Petter engine , whats missing is a flywheel.
New Bearings, 2 pistons (standard and +0.020), Cylinder, head with valves, injectors, piston rings and seals, 4 waterpumps, 7 impellers, head without valves, starter, fuel pump, crankshaft.
I was in negotiation with Pierre from canada but have not heard from him in a long time, so I assume he does not want it any more.
Drop me a mail if you are interested and need partnumbers for the new Items and a shipping quote.

Mine was documented by a former owner, I can mail you the scan.
Don't know how they went about doing it, the only thing I ran into with the transfer was the citizenship thingy that the patriot act provided. So now it is in my wife's name, is that a good thing?
I am looking for other options , but they all seem expensive.

Thanks Guys, I took the cap off and they were woodscrews, the first 4 were too loose and no caulk was ever used here, I used oversize screws and caulk to see if it fixes thye problem before I will refiberglass the old holes and figure out a way to get it on without drilling holes, I hate holes , have way too many in the deck.
Thanks for your input.
That Capt Tolly stuff looks good.

Thanks Stefan, I suspect the track, but the caps dont look so good and are loose. Are the tracks also screwed on with wood screws?

I have traced a deckside leak to my port cap rail, right where the wood ends and the track starts.
The former owner caulked where these rails meet the deck. I was wondering if anyone has taken these rails and caps off to caulk under them? Are they installed with woodscrews? I cannot see the bottom from the inside of the boat.
Thanks
Peter

PS This is my last leak, then its launch time...

Mine is also 2.62 with a 11X10 3 blade, seems to work well.

My depth sounder did not work correctly on my last outing, can I hurt it if I turn it on when it's not in the water?
The indicator rolled through all depths kinda slow, and when at 0 started the same thing again, maybe someone knows, I hope...

Yes topside with Interlux, I just went through the trash, but I tossed the can. It was a one part urethane and prekote primer.
The spraying failed because I ended up with lots of little pockmarks that showed up after a while, must have been my prep i guess?? Also had  problems keeping constant pressure on the HVLP sprayer. after sanding once again The roll on and then tip off with a dry brush got rid of these .
I am looking forward to trying the rolite!
Good luck guys.
