Topic: ? about CO26 vs. JJT

Just bought a Contessa. The registration says the HIN starts with CFZ which leads me to believe the original HIN is covered/removed/etc (can't find it in the normal place). We're going under the assumption it's a JJ Taylor version - apparently the forestay is a big indicator (ours is attached forward on a tang).

But I've been reading the forums and saw someone posted that there's a difference between the sail specs for the JJT and the CO. Our sail # is CO 98 and there's a CO in the sheer stripe on the bow. What does this indicate? Thanks!

Hi LaDonna & Rob,

So glad that you dropped the "A" from Tessa as mine is officially called.  I am aware of the other Tessa across the pond so that's far enough for me.  Welcome to the forum.  Tess looks great.

Hi Jose,

We knew there was a Tessa in UK but didn't realize there was another so close. Now I'm *really* glad we dropped the A! Tess can just be Tessa's tomboyish American cousin! ;-)

Thanks for the welcome.

Re: ? about CO26 vs. JJT

Hi Again,

That's a pretty funny blogspace you guys have.  I particularly like the shot of the interior of Tess as the PO was moving out.  What was that PO thinking?  What's with the enema bag hanging portside?  Personal bilge pump perhaps? Anyhow, I totally sympathize with the naming process.  I was thinking of changing Tessa's name to perhaps,.... Seacup but she already had the brass plaque inside and I know that changing a vessel's name could be bad luck if not done properly.;-)  Good luck with the renos and please do share updates (photos!!) with us here at the forum.  It's gonna be a hell of a before and after plus all your preparations for Transpac race.

Cheers!

José

Re: ? about CO26 vs. JJT

She looks most lovely. Congratulations!

Just to add more confusion though, my '71 JC Rogers in CT is also "Tess".
Named by a previous owner. She was known as "LADY ANNE OF ST DONATS" and skippered by David Sutcliffe in the '76 OSTAR.

Tess is federally documented in the US.
Hope this does not present too much difficulty.

I stay within the confines of the Atlantic pond.

Many happy cruises.

Jim

Re: ? about CO26 vs. JJT

Jim,
Do you have any details on David Sutcliffe's voyage in the '76 OSTAR ? how long did it take him and which route did he take ? Was there any specific modifications he made for the trip worth passing on !

Thanks in advance

Re: ? about CO26 vs. JJT

Oh man, nothing's original! Sorry for that!

Shouldn't cause any problems - #1: we won't be documenting the boat and #2: even if we did, the CG wouldn't care (there are 124 'Wet Dream's documented in the US, for example). At least we're on different coasts! :-)

Thanks for the welcome!

Re: ? about CO26 vs. JJT

Jose,

That enema bag was used as her water tank - at least I HOPE so! The water tank was disconnected and looks like it's cracked. We're planning on installing a new tank where the engine used to be.

I have to tell you, this poor gal knew nothing about boats - she was just using it to crash on while she went to school. The rain we had this weekend would have sent the water in the bilge over the floorboards. Man, would she have had a problem then!

Worked all weekend on Tess and got lots done. I'll post a few pix and an update today.
