Sorry about the downtime there folks. Slight DNS problem, but it's all taken care of now. Let me know if you're having any troubles.

I know there's a few Contessa 26s out there, and at least one is a post-1983 boat, but I doubt she's for sale. Otherwise, check the For sale section of this forum, and also the marketplace accessible from our homepage.

I am sure others will let us know if they uncover anything.

I seem to recall that on #322, the boom could easily have been shortened by 6 inches, but as I don't have a boat available to measure, I cannot confirm this, nor confirm the length of the boom.

Good stuff. Thanks Paul!

I sure don't, sorry Paul.

It's too bad Shannon isn't on the board any more. She probably did have the pattern.

That's an interesting question. My gut reaction is to say that most diesels will run fine with biodiesel. But that's my gut.

I'll see if I can find any information about it around the nets.

I would have blamed the economy too, except for the insane number of power boats there. I am beginning to believe that over the next 20 years, we'll see a very large shift to powerboating. There aren't that many new sailboats being made, and as the old ones age beyond usefulness, there will be almost nothing left to sail on. Sort of a sad future, I think.

Well, Suze and I met up, along with my father. Had some nice sailing talk at a boatshow otherwise largely devoid of much sailing. I am surprised by how few sailboats were there this year.

That close to shore, in those sorts of breaking waves, I wouldn't necessarily consider a demasting a failure. The boat largely survived and can be repaired, and the crew survived apparently unhurt. That's a success, in my books.

The real failure here sadly falls to crew error. They probably shouldn't have been that close to shore in weather like that with that much sail up. I just watched the video again, and feel strongly that the boat bottomed out before she rolled.

3:00 in the beer garden by the indoor lake sounds good to me.

Well, 16th or 17th, I can make either. 16th is probably better for me, but I have to check with my father. We can definitely meet for a brew. I can and probably will be there all day, since my son is likely working the show.

We can propose a time, I guess around 3pm?

I'll try to get down on the 16th too. Maybe those of us who are going to be there can meet up down by the indoor lake.

I take it all back, I expect I'll be at the boat show next weekend, not this. My son is apparently not working the show until then, so I don't see any reason to go twice smile

No thanks required Ivan. I've been making a lot of changes behind the scenes, hopefully I can reveal them soon - the site hasn't changed at all since I first took it over, and I think it's about time.

As for buying up all the Contessas, I keep wondering if there isn't a market for someone to start building an updated version, but I also know the boat market is not all that solid any more, and people like their big floating cottages. I do dream of a Contessa 26 build out of modern materials and techniques, but with a sliding companionway hatch.

It's kind of scary to start doing the maths, isn't it?

That's why I simply choose not to wink

Stefan, Tim Lackey didn't really have the shop space of capital when he first restored Glissando, either. One step at a time!

Interesting, Ivan. Keep us posted. I am sure there's some interest in professional restoration around here.

I wonder if Alan Nye's new boatworks would do anything on Contessas, or if they're strictly about restoring Albergs.

Always happy to help.

I'll be making some improvements to this site over the next couple of months, since we don't currently have a boat to spend all my time on!

Suggestions for site improvements are more than welcome.

I don't have a slip to be charged for right now, but I remember when I had my Alberg 29, I was paying for the 34 foot slip it was in. When I had my Contessa 26, I was paying for the 30 foot slip it was in. I think it's pretty standard, at least around Toronto.

Glad the performance is improved. Always aiming to please smile

Hey all,

I've made a minor modification to the forum software we're using, and commenting performance should be a lot faster now.

Let me know if anyone has any troubles.
