i'll be there the 10th along with a great (but non contessan) contingent of people that we hang out with on the water and as far as i know we're all at the sheraton for the boat show special...

you're right - theres no better place to sail and muck around

i still have to get my passport yet - never made it to the Cape during my short season last year, but next season I sure will.

wow   we're going to have a nice little fleet in that end of the lake...

are you going to commute from PA to Cape Vincent??

are you repowering?

maybe with a twin?
i dont mind my 1 lunger yanmar , sounds like a 200 lb sewing machine at idle but smooths out alright past about 1200 revs

shes gonna be gorgeous!

everywhere you go, someone will ask you if it's a contessa 26.  don't even be surprised if someone asks you if its a new one......

so i've been following equinox's progress, and i just saw something that about made me almost cry.

those nice flush thru hulls, which are now definitely unserviceable after removal by means which are about the furthest thing from
non-destructive, are hard to find.  maybe i just didn't have the $$ for new ones, but I sure took my time removing those puppies and sandblasted them and reused em.  you need a 2nd set of hands.....

i'd be asking about that genoa track as well.  it sure would be a shame to do all of this work and then have those suckers leak.  its not impossible to get them off and back on again.  i dont know about the newer boats (ie clearance between the side of the hull liner and headliner) but i dont think that they were ever made with a 1 piece cabinliner (hull liner and deck liner are separate).  it's a bear of a job, hard on the fingers and definitely  requiring the help of a patient volunteer (in my case, Dad!)  but well worth it after a long slog, rail buried, and you don't have to worry about , well, water down below.  tool of choice for nut access is a set of 30 and 45 deg, bent nose, long reach needlenose pliers.  a flashlight and inspection mirror help as well....

this is gonna be a good one - this is exactly what I did but I sure didnt have the facilities that Tim Lackey has.

Man i wish I had a shop like that.   If anyone wants to know where there are problem areas on a Contessa 26, this will the story to watch!

Anyone else out there in Contessa land making the trip to TO for a midwinter boat fix?

Pair of aft non opening window frames (alum) from Untold Want (74).  Free for the taking for patterns, or if yours are so badly corroded as not to have to spend a fortune on some alum plate to have new ones machined.  I replaced all the ports with some new old stock bomars (thanks ebay!)

Sandblast them, anodize or repaint them and they'll be as good as new.

anyone have a winter cover from topshop in kingston?

approx how high is the frame off the deck and does the cover do a decent job of overing up the rudderhead?

ive got a frame made up and im likely going to order just the cover, just want to see if anyone else out there is happy with theirs

might want to look at r&d small shear loaded mounts - i used these for my yanmar reinstallation (theres a photo in the gallery). they seem to work really well, a bit jumpy at idle but great for cruise, very little fore and aft deflection when running.

when the boats in the water and sitting neutral, my cockpit doesnt drain all that well.  the floor slopes maybe a degree forward, so the drains should be placed forward.  the tight engine compartment will never allow for that, so i keep my anchor chain in the aft locker.  helps.

i would have a closer look at this bfore cutting the top out.  i have some pictures that i can pass along or post up once i find them on my computer.

i would (did) work from the inside.  the top skin is the meat of the deck - once you cut the top skin out theres nothing really holding the deck together as the bottom "skin" isnt really a skin, just cosmetic.

we could have a mini rendezvous cause i'm in gan till thanksgiving or until i get a roaring westerly to headback to iroquois

when i painted the topsides, i painted to the top of the single bootstripe and then when i did the interprotect bottom i brought it up to the top of the bootstripe.

the bootstripe had been previously painted over with antifouling leaving me to believe that once loaded, she sat a bit lower than intended.
this weekend i can shoot some measurements from hull deck joint to painted waterline if you like

just uploaded the newest picture of the boat and you can see the blue / black.  the black is where diana had painted with antifoul so i interprotected to there.  the black that is out of the water is pretty much 3/4 of the original waterline stripe.

i took the waterline up to the top of the gelcote stripe, and in the water not loaded up with much she has about 3" to go before hitting this mark

ultrafurl is a great product - installs easily, is durable,  and can be serviced with minimal tools and without the need to drop the mast.

when i have the bucks i'll by an ultrafurl 300

what aftermarket mounts do you have?  i used the r&d small shear moutns (you can see in the picture) and they seem real good at isolating forward and reverse thrust.  the engine doesnt move at all when you drop it in gear

if you can squeeze it in you'll like the beta.  parts are available, people seem generally happy with them. my 1 lunger yanmar was a tight fit (for me who likes to work on things) but now its far enough forward that i can hand bomb it with relative ease.  i'll likeley have to relieve the boat a bit to fit the alternator on, but thats for later.

the hardest thing is where the keel/bilge narrows as you head aft.

you're right, the little yanmar is like a friggin jumping jack at idle (it'll shake the top of the mast) but anything past 1300 revs or so it smooths right out, cruise at 2500-2800 is pretty darn good.....

Well Contessa people, after listening to me rant for 4 years I can finally say that I got my boat in the water.  There's still some jobs to finish (it is a boat) but she floats, looks pretty good, and I can't wait to get hte mast up and go sailing.  Hopefully we get something of a summer in the next few weeks...
