The Contessa is a good boat for that, Stefan!

Like I said, I miss #322. She was a fine example of the breed, and sailed like a dream. I could totally single-hand her. The Alberg 29, while a lovely boat, and amazing to live aboard (Sarah and I lived aboard for a summer, it was amazing), steered like a brick in reverse, had enormous sails that required a lot of manhandling, and somehow I never felt quite as safe on her as I did on #322. And that's an Alberg-designed boat I'm talking about!

That's why I'm looking at smaller boats again. Cos I want to sail.

Absolutely Jim.

For me, it seems even harder. I had a newer Co26, in amazing shape, and my chances of finding one like that again are pretty slim.

That said, the Co26 is still on my short short list, along with the Cape Dory 25d and the Alberg 22.

I just can't get another big boat right now. Maybe someday, but a small 22-26 is pretty much right up my alley in terms of boat.

Be careful with the pursuit of something roomier!

I moved to an Alberg 29 which I adored, but the sailing wasn't any better than it was on the Contessa. I guess it depends on why you own a boat. For me, now, its not about size, its about hours spent sailing. I had a lot more good ones on the Contessa than I did on the Alberg. It was double the displacement, and double the work.

I miss my Contessa 26.

I aim to please. smile

I just did some forum maintenance, deleted over 21,000 spambot users, largely by going through the list of users with zero posts and deleting the ones I thought looked sketchy.

If I've deleted anyone's account, please re-register and except my sincere apologies.

Adrian.

Hey all,

Just wanted to say I've added a CAPTCHA to the registration process of the site in order to hopefully stem some of our spam problems.

I hate CAPTCHAs at the best of time, but I hate spam even more.

Let me know if you have any trouble with it. Most of us shouldn't, as we're already registered.

Adrian

I am still in battle with the spambots, but in general, I think we're doing okay.

It's a small group of enthusiasts, and up until this week at least, many of them were out sailing smile

I have been toying with buying another Contessa, but I've also been toying with the idea of getting a Cape Dory 25d.

NO worries Suze! Just sorry you got caught up in the web there. I think it happened to John once too.

She got banned accidentally by the spam filtering system. It has happened twice since I started using it. My apologies. I'm emailing her now, since I've unbanned her.

I'd expect as long as the fuel filter/separator were at least as good as the one on your Farymann, you'd be fine. But that's just an opinion. I'm certainly no expert.

Hey all,

I've had a bit of a breach in the security of the site, specifically where the images in the gallery are concerned. I'm attempting to recreate the thumbnails from the big images, which happily still exist.

I'll keep you posted.

Adrian

I personally think a Contessa is a bit big for regular trailering. It might be worth looking into the slightly smaller, but still quite capable Alberg 22 for more regular trailering.

Others on the forum might disagree with me though.

Hell, I don't even have a boat and I'm here!

It's always good to read the new posts you guys have made.

I am working on some more solutions. Unfortunately just keeping the spam off the site is taking a considerable amount of time. Also, I have to admit that daily life is currently impinging on the time I spend maintaining this site.

But rest assured I am working on it. If its any consolation, only about 8% of the spam is actually getting through. I've managed to automatically blog the other 92%. That gives you some idea of how much spam there is.

The best thing to do right now for you guys is to not click on spam. Just leave it be and I'll keep working on the filtering.

Thanks guys!

I didi get sailing albeit on my father's Hughes 38. A nice boat, but its certainly no Contessa 26 or Alberg 29. I really miss being a boat owner. I miss my Contessa smile

The CDI furlers are also excellent value for money, and are proven on cruisers.

The teak grate came with the boat. I don't know if it was a feature of the model year or an extra option or what, but I did love that cockpit grate. Teak has great traction when it gets wet.

On the downside, it did trap all sorts of debris (think snack food, since I was on the boat with three small kids) and that it was a pain to stow when I was working on the engine.

But otherwise, I loved it. If you're handy, I don't see that it would be that difficult to actually make one.
