Holy cow! Where did those come from?

I am actually surprised that pedal-powered generators aren't more common on boats. They seem like a good idea in a battery emergency.

I know that a human  being can't really generate that much power, but probably enough to operate a radio or something.

I've been enjoying thumbing through Chapmans Piloting and Seamanship. Makes me long for a boat though.

I think I have a few of the Pardey books. I seem to recall liking them. I'll poke through my boxes and see what I have.

We met at 2pm at the indoor lake last year. Specifically at the little boathouse on the (east?) far side of the 'lake'. I think this is a pretty good place to meet again?

a.

Not having it spilled on you?

I can't make any promises about eating afterward, but I'll certainly try to. Weekends are so hard for me to schedule these days.

I'm fine with the 12th too, if that works better for everyone. The 19th was merely a suggestion.

Totally up to you guys, but we should make a decision one way or t'other.

Awesome. I am looking forward to seeing you guys. I doubt I'll have a boat by then, but its always fun to go to the boatshow.

Beer's on someone else this year!

I'll add a thread at the top of this forum.

Boat show in Toronto is only a month and a bit away, isn't it? We should arrange to meet up?

A kerosene, propane or diesel heater. I had a Force 10 propane heater on the Alberg, and it did a great job of heating the cabin. Considering I lived on the boat from basically May till September, there were some very cold nights. And the heater made them cozy.

Thanks guys! Like I said, I am weighing options. It looks like I will be getting a smaller boat, if I get one at all. I guess we'll have to see.

The market for Contessas is a bit hot right now, so I am not sure if I can afford one. I've been looking at Alberg 22s for day sailing.

Ah well. We shall see.

Hello Contessa folks,

Once again I find myself boatless. Due to circumstances beyond my control, my Alberg 29 has been sold.

I will be considering my options and will keep you guys informed.

Thanks, and keep up the posting!

Adrian.

I think you'll find fuel prices have a lot to do with the stunning increase in the 26' range.

There's the thing though. For most people buying a Hunter, Catalina or Beneteau, they are buying a dream of going sailing, but not actually buying into the idea of going sailing. They are buying into the dream the magazines sell. They are buying into the status a sailing yacht offers.

For us, we are sailors, and our boats reflect that.

I don't think a 26 foot sailboat with no headroom and less elbow-space than a Catalina 25 is going to sell for anything like $100,000 no matter how good its reputation.

I do believe that if a new Contessa 26 could be had for ~CDN$40-60,000 there would be something of a market for them.

The thing we have to remember is that the vast majority of boat purchases are made by people who will be daysailing, weekending and taking the occasional coastal cruiser. The Contessa 26 can do all this, but there are other boats out there that do a much better job of it.

I miss my Contessa. But in comparison to the room inside an Alberg 29, the Contessa is tiny.

Of course, I might be moving down to an Alberg 22. We'll have to see.

I note that the Contessa 26 market value has gone WAY up.

A return to simple boating values for some and the oil price situatio seem to be making the small sailboat market very popular again.

It would be interesting to find out how much a Contessa 26 would have to sell for to make it feasible again.

I've instituded yet another new spam prevention measure. If you have any weirdness with posts disappearing, or accounts being magically banned or anything like that, please contact me to let me know?

Sorry about the spam, guys. It's been a major thorn in my side for a long time, and I haven't had the spare time lately that I needed to take care of it properly.

Adrian.

It's good to hear from you Shannon. Congratulations on your boat, and on your new relationship too! I look forward to pictures of your new ship.

Haven't heard a thing John.
