Topic: How do you clear the two cockpit drains when they get clogged. (1 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
I have unsuccessfully tried everything to keep the two cockpit drains clear.
I have used everything from coat hangers to electricians snake. Can not get and keep them open. When on land I can use a high pressure water hose, but what to do when in the water?

Re: Back stay (11 replies, posted in Wanted)
Hi John. Thanks again. I wonder if there is a difference in sizes from boat to boat, perhaps depending on the year of manufacture? Not sure of the age of mine, definately am early 1970, I would guess
By the way, the thread on both lower and upper stays is the same (5/16 - 24) only difference seems to be in length of turnbuckle.
Forgot something. It is actually the length of the 2 pieces of cable from the turnbuckle at the end of the standing back stay to the 2 fittings on the deck I need. I assume it is something like 6 or 7 feet?

Re: Back stay (11 replies, posted in Wanted)
John, just one more question, I noticed on the rigging of another Contessa, that there were 2 different sized turnbuckles, one size for all stays except the 4 lower stays. 5" and 4" barrels, is this normal?

Re: Back stay (11 replies, posted in Wanted)
Hi John, I really appreciate all your effort on my behalf.
What I do need is the dimension of the two lower cables. Having said that, provided my backstay is the same as yours, I am in business. I will have to measure that to be sure. Anyway, from the numbers you gave me, I will be able to calculate my two lower cables, should there be a variance.
Thanks again John, you solved my problem.

Re: Vire Engine (5 replies, posted in Wanted)
I had an offer for a vire motor. We compared the distance of the mounting lugs, and my lugs are 20" apart, and 6" front front to back, the mounting holes on the vire did not seem to match. Does anyone know if the vire engine could somehow fit even if there is a difference in the mounting lugs, or was it a diesel mounted there, and if so, does anyone know what kind of diesel with the mentioned mounting holes. Installing any engine in a Contessa is difficult, and having to put in a new mount is next to impossible, since I can not find a marine mechanic who wants to tackle it. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Securing Batteries Revisited (4 replies, posted in Repairs/Modifications/Upgrades)
I am not sure if this is the right spot to bring this up. But here we go.
I was looking for prices on a dodger for my contessa, and they don't come cheap.
I was wondering if a number of contessa owner were willing to get together and have a mould made for a hard dodger. After the original cost of getting a mould, it would be cheaper to have a hard dodger, and the installation would be easy. One person could mount one in an hour or less, all you would have to do is drill holes for mounting bolts, seal then, and you are done. I would venture a guess they could be made for less than $500. Any bright ideas???

Is there some one out there with a decent Vire inboard engine at reasonable cost I would be interested in hearing from you
I have been informed that a Vire 6 was originally installed in my boat. It still have the mounting in the boat, so I would like to get a Vire 6 which could be installed without making alterations to the mount and the electrical harness
