I've hidden the Lake Ontario Contessa 26 Association forum from users that are not registered and signed in. It seemed like a good idea, given the slightly different nature of this forum.

If anyone thinks I've erred, please let me know.

Adrian.

What are your thoughts on the new forum software? Any suggestions on how to improve the site as a whole?

So, as you can all see, the update is complete. It did not go without issues, however.

First, the new features:

- you can now create polls.
- you can have an avatar (60x60, jpg, gif or png)
- you can upload images (called attachments) when posting. jpg, gif or png. Ideally you'd keep the pixel size below say 1600x1600, just to ease the load on the server?
- you can now send Private Messages among users.
- SPAM should be considerably reduced, making life easier for all of us.
- the stupid registration captcha that made it so impossible to register is gone.

Second, the issues:
- the link between the gallery and the forum that allows us to post there without having to log in again is broken. This is not much of an issues to me, since I would like to use the attachment feature mentioned above instead of the gallery in the future. I am planning on moving all the images over from the gallery to special gallery sections in the forums. If anyone thinks this is a really bad idea, please let me know?

Anyway, that's step one, making the forum faster and a bit better. Step two is making the whole site a lot more interesting and easier to use. Maybe I'll have a bit of time once the baby is born, more likely it'll take a bit longer. As always, if anyone's having trouble, please email me at info@co26.com.

Adrian

Welcome to the board -and the Contessa owners club (which I am not currently part of)!

ZJT 03143 1275

A JJ Taylor (JZT) made Contessa 26 manufactured in December 1975 (1275) with a serial number of 03143, most likely displaying sail #143. Sound about right?

Adrian.

Hey all,

I'm going to be migrating the site to some different forum and gallery software soon (probably in the next week or so, maybe longer). This should largely go without problem, but one of the unforeseen problems with this migration is going to be that passwords are going to be reset.

As always, I'll be available to help people via email, but I am also posting some basic information here:

When the site changes (and you'll know), you won't be able to log in with your existing password any more. What you'll need to do is click on the "I forgot my password" link on the login screen. This will take you to a page that asks for your username and your email address. Enter both of those, and you'll be sent an email with a new password and a link to follow. Then you can go and change your password to something that works for you.

I know it's a pain in the ass, but the update is pretty good, and will let us have a few more features for the site, and in general make conversation easier.

If you end up not being able to log in, send an email to info@co26.com and I'll help reset your password.

Thanks!

Adrian.

Edit: Of course, this depends on my wife not suddenly going into labor...

Absolutely Jordan. I actually posted a thread about that restoration not too long ago. Excellent work, but then again, Tim's work is always top-shelf.

The first cruise isn't going to work for me (see that thread for reasons why). This one, however, I might well be able to make! I'll mark it in the calendar and talk to my wife about it.

Ashbridges is an easy bike ride from my house.

Hey guys.

You have no idea how much I'd love to come for a sail. Unfortunately this weekend is a complete writeoff. We have an annual family reunion on Saturday, that cannot be missed (my father would be so disappointed), and I have to take my daughter off to be a trainee on a Tall Ship on Sunday. After that, we have to go to my cousin's new daughter's christening.

All of that assuming my wife doesn't go into labour, as we approach the due date for our own new addition!

But please keep us posted on how it goes?

Bill, you can totally post the link in the forum, if you like. It'll save everyone having to guess where it is smile

Looking forward to it Ivan!

Also, I've fixed the problem some of you might have been experiencing with the site and subscriptions (the big orange error box showing up).

Unfortunately I will be unable to make it tonight, though I will try for the next one.

My wife is expecting a child very soon, so there is no shortage of things to get done before the baby arrives.

I'll see if I can make it down. I don't work very far from there, and I think my wife is going to be working late, so I might have an opportunity to attend smile

John,

There's totally interest. Pictures, a write-up, anything! It's even better that you're a novice - we can all learn together. I suspect you'd get a lot of great advice from the members on this board.

Hey all,

I just came to the startling realization that it's been more than six years since I took over this site. I am so happy it continues to be the go-to resource for Contessa 26 owners on the web. We have you to thank for that.

I'd love to start posting a series of articles about a refurbishment of a Contessa 26. If anyone's contemplating such a refit, please let me know.

On a sad note, is also means that it's been 5.5 years since I sold my Contessa 26 and moved to a (subsequently lost to me) Alberg 29. I still don't have a boat, though I hope to remedy that at some point in the future.

A Contessa 26 is definitely in the running, though only one of the post-1983 versions. Other boats in the running include the capable Nor'Sea 27 and the Dana 24. I really want to stick with a boat that has simple systems (though I admit that standing headroom would be nice). One thing I realized owning the Alberg 29 is that I'm far happier with a smaller yacht.

Anyway, thank you to all of you for making this forum worth keeping online. Your knowledge and dedication has been of inestimable value to the Contessa 26 community the world around.

Adrian.

Deb, did you have your boats ventilated at all?

One winter I forgot to open some ports, and my Contessa mildewed right up. It had never done that before, and ever since, having had some ventilations (sometimes active, with some solar ports circulating air) neither myself or my father have had mold issues, despite our insanely warm winter this year.

Topic moved to the new forum specifically for the Lake Ontario Contessa 26 Association!

Hopefully we can grow it beyond just Lake Ontario.

I am going to create a section of the forum specifically for this association, if that's cool with you guys?

Keeping her on the Lake will result in a much larger sailing grounds. That said, the Ottawa River has a lot of sailboats on it.

Rumor has it 3-blade props back up somewhat better than 2-blade. That said, I think a 3-blade prop has more drag when the engine's off.

But what do I know?
