I've seen many pictures of co26s with multiple winches on each coaming, but #322 came with just the one on each side. I enjoy the minimalism this affords us, but self-tailers would make it a little easier for my kids to learn to grind, and maybe save their father some grief as well.

#322 has four winches: two on the cockpit coamings (Barlow 16) and two on the cabin top (Barlow 15).

Does anyone know what the equivalent sizes for these winches are from companies like Lewmar, Harken, etc? We are considering replacing them with self-tailing winches and are researching the cost involved in doing so.

If the Contessa 26 were to go back into production, and you were given the oppourtunity to suggest changes, what changes would you suggest? Pretty much anything goes, with the exception of the keel configuration and the general length of the boat (it still has to be marketed as a Contessa 26, after all). Obviously it should retain the classic look and sailing characteristics that make us love it so.

I'd suggest for sure:

- a sliding companionway, which would then make possible ;
- a bridge deck in the cockpit,
- a reconfigured anchor locker on the foredeck, as the current one impinges on footroom in the v-berth,
- a cabin-top traveller, to get the mainsheet out of the cockpit,
- move the fuel tank to a lower, more central location

Things I'd like to see drawings of:

- make the boat 9 inches longer ( 26'3" is still a Contessa 26!),
- making the cabin 12 inches longer,
- adding 6 to 9 inches to the beam of the boat,
- reconfigure at least one of the quarter berths to to allow one (or both) to be proper open berths, which would then make it possible to slide it (or both) open into a double, and also makes possible pipe berths overtop the berths (hey, I have three kids, and they take up a lot of space),
- move the gallery to the aft of the cabin, similar to the configuration of an Alberg 30,
- increase cabin height by just an inch or two over its entire length, or step the cabin-top similar to an Alberg 29 (very mild step in cabin profile)

Things to consider:

- Building the boat out of aluminum

I imagine its going to be tricky to find a rudder for and '85. I don't know how much they changed after #300, but I know an additional pintle and gudgeon were added.

Bronte Outer Harbour just called, and we'll be launching #322 on April 15th at 10am.

I cannot wait to be back out on the water. Now I just have to get all that stuff done before we launch...

You'll probably need to specifiy year and whether the boat is a JR boat or a JJT boat.

I can wiggle through the front hatch of my 1984, so I imagine most people can fit through it. Granted I am not a giant, but I'm 5'9" and while I do find the headroom a little tight, its not unbearable.

I've never seen one on a Contessa 26, but I recall Shannon mentioning having seen one, I think.

Both registries were just updated. If you have any changes for either registry, please send them to me at info@co26.com.

The boat will live up to her reputation, I think we'll all guarantee that. Welcome to the fold. Tell us about your boat!

It looks like the 16th and 17th will be the dates. Not sure of venue quite yet, and am open to suggestions. We're in Bronte Outer Harbour, which is a nice marina in a great town. I'd love to have everyone down here. There's a fantastic area of the marina where we could probably get whichever boats came all in one place.

I was wondering that too. Nothing wrong with the Atomic IV, but its HUGE!  As for fumes, proper venting will ensure that like a million Alberg 30s, any other dep bilged boat like a Contessa 26 won't blow up.

I'll consult with my wife and see what she thinks Jose, but I think those dates sound great.

We're using a Garmin GPS 76MAP, which is a great, inexpensive handheld model. I figure more bells and whistles means more to go wrong.

In fact, I'm going to close this thread. Please email me at info@co26.com if you have information for the registry.

The front of the site has changed a bit, its now more oraganized and easier to find information. I'm going to experiment with the search facilities we have, to make sure everything works correctly.

That's a good idea Shannon. I'll get on that. Right now I'm just continuing to add the tech notes and information from the old site.

I've added a link to the Hull repair page for Hanky Panky, and added two pictures to the original post too. One think I'd love to see more pictures of is of what appears to be an aft pulpit mounted traveller on Hanky Panky.
