Hey guys,
I got an email from someone looking for information on a specific Contessa. Details:
Located in Picton, ontario. vessel license no is: 50E81777
There is no vessel name painted on the boat.
Any info you happen to post here would be appreciated.

Any trouble shoehorning the engine into the boat?
How do you find the 14hp overall? That's a significant increase over the 8hp I had in my Contessa - and I never found her underpowered.

No possibility of taking it down the Erie Canal/Hudson River yourself? I suspect that is a trip you would enjoy thoroughly, and it would also get you VERY familiar with the boat.
Otherwise, I've never had a boat delivered before, so I can't really help much.

All of the 76 series Garmin models are pretty good if you don't need hard-core chart plotting capabilities.

Be sure to take lots of pictures - more than you think you need to. They are invaluable for planning projects on the boat when you're not near it. Also, we like to see them, so post them in the gallery

I've heard good things about the Skipper Bob guidebooks on other forums. I've never looked into them, but I mean to when I have a boat again.

All I can tell you is that the boat is listed on the (very outdated, I need to start getting more up-to-date information) registry as such:
1984 321 Mr Toads Wild Ride Colchester VT USA
Others may have more info. You guys have anything else on Mr Toad's Wild Ride? Anyone else gone to look at her in the past?

Thanks for the update Barry. We're all following you in our minds (and on Google Maps!). I for one am very envious of your journey.

I still have my Garmin GPS76MAP that I had on both my Contessa and my Alberg. Handheld unit, nothing particularly fancy. But it does tell me where I am.

Re: Purchasing a Contessa (2 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
No specific knowledge, based on the information you've given so far. Any idea what hull number she is? I'm guessing somewhere in the 320-330s, given the year. With the hull number, we might be able to tell you more.
That said, the boats with hull numbers in the 300s are great. Slightly more headroom, and an anchor well in the bow.

You are going to have such a good summer sailing! I miss my Contessa more and more every year. Never sailed anything so wonderful.

You should post it in the For Sale section too, Andrew. Also, if you send me an ad, I can post it in the Marketplace section of the site.

I bet the 2GM13 is a fantastic engine for the Contessa. Much smoother than the 1GM10, I figure.

Re: New Engine NEED ADVICE please (11 replies, posted in Repairs/Modifications/Upgrades)
I agree. It may be the case that a heat exchanger might increase the life of the engine, but we're routinely seeing engines 20 or 30 years old that have been raw-water cooled their entire lives still chugging along.

Re: Toronto Boat Show 2010 (5 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
Well, I was down there yesterday. Overall, a fairly disappointing boat show, in my opinion. Less and less sailboats every year, which I guess is to be expected, but no sense of excitement or anything. No particularly good deals. Endless seas of shiny white fibreglass. There was the Atlantic Challenge boat, a lug-rigged yawl, and a pretty little catboat tucked away in the corner.
But largely it was like last years boat show, but with even fewer boats of interest.

So, I'll be down on the 9th (Sunday) from 10am till at least 2pm. That's when my sons are working the Toronto Brigantine booth.

The boat on Kajiji looks really good! I wonder what year/hull number she is. I am also curious why she's being sold - she seems such a keeper.

I'll have to check my schedule Stefan. Both my sons are manning the Toronto Brigantine booth at the show at one point or another, and it'd be nice to meet up. I'll check and post back here as soon as I know when they're working.

And welcome to the Contessa Corner!
