Paul, that sounds like a prop size mismatch, on first blush. Might be worth talking to someone about the best prop for your engine.

I guess the question is: where are you going! smile

The Co26 is a proven world-cruiser. If you can handle her deficiencies (no headroom, cramped quarters) you'll be fine.

My Bukh had a decompression lever that certainly made it easier to spin. Are you sure you don't have one?

With a loose-footed main, one can change the draught of the sail by loosening the outhaul. The sail will belly out more, giving it more power in situations where one needs it. With a regular main on slides, this can't be done with any sort of efficiency.

I also happen to think a loose-footed main is easier to set up, but that's just me. I've only ever used one once, and quite enjoyed the experience.

I believe mine had eight long machine screws holding it down against a rather large rubber gasket.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture that demonstrates this.

Hi all,

Had a small problem with forum emails not being sent. Hopefully this didn't inconvenience anyone too much. All should  be well now.

Hi all,

I'll be doing some site maintenance over the next 48 hours, and for some portion of this time, the forums will be unavailable. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Adrian.

First note, Canadian-made Contessa 26's have cored decks. Not sure about the UK version.

I have a lot of pictures of Contessas. What sort of photos are you looking for?

Hi guys,

I've made a slight change to the site homepage, in order to make it look a bit fresher. All marketplace posts now appear in the timeline on the homepage.

We are happy to help!

Enjoy your maiden voyage. The trip from Hamilton to Toronto is a pleasant one.

Well, I think you'll find a strong bias here toward the Contessa 26 smile

I personally don't know enough about the Halcyon 27. I do know there are several Atlantic crossings under their belts, and that they have more headroom, but otherwise I can't really offer a good opinion in terms of construction quality/durability/seaworthiness/etc.

The Contessa 26 has a very respectable pedigree, and is a fantastic boat for singlehanding.

UK boat still in possession of the 'dust-bin' front hatch. Very lovely!

If you want to email me your contact details, I will email them to Evald. That should keep everything quiet on the Spam front.

Speaking of which, we don't seem to be having anywhere near as much Spam any more. That's pretty good, I think. Has everything been okay for you guys?

Welcome back to Contessa ownership! I'm in Toronto, so unfortunately I won't be making it out there, but I am excited for you!

I concur. At the tack to clear lifelines and stanchions.

I can't really comment on the cost. I was looking to see if I had any pictures that showed it, but I haven't come across any yet. I'll keep looking.

My Contessa didn't have deck scuppers that drained through thru-hulls. It had gaps in the fiberglass under the toerail cap that drained water out. All round more sensible than bringing water from the deck on board, then back out through thru-hulls.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think both the electric and manual bilge pumps can drain through the same through-hull. I think that's how mine was.
