The Contessa has been on the hard in my shed for 6 years and I repaired the keel from being grounded .I found some blister on the bottom side so had her Gelplaned .Is this common on the JJ Taylors.Has anybody gone through this repair?

Re: Stepping down the mast (21 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
Thanks for all that great info!!What year is your boat and was the mast step bolted to the deck?Mine is an 1985 and not sure if the 4 bolts need to come out and the casting recessed inside cabin top comes off with it or if the mast splits from the lower plate on the mast.So is there an recess in your cabin top now or did he leave an aluminum plate still with the boat? Thanks George

Re: Heater and stove (32 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
I went to the boat and pulled apart the carb and cleaned it for the heater and started and runs great. The cook stove I think needs new burners.I heard of a place that rebuilds them so I will give them a call.Today a new owner of a contessa 26 approached me so I told him about the forum and he going to join. Thanks for the info!George

Re: Heater and stove (32 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
Hi again hope I am not asking too many Questions ,But thanks to you guys on this forum I am able to get some of the answers I need. The 1985 JJ Taylor came with a gimballed oil stove and heater. Are these still a good idea or has better stuff come out .The stove seems very tricky to light and requires 15 psi of pressure to work, and does not work well at best.Is a person better to go a different type or maybe try and get this one repaired? The heater is gravity feed Dickson. Thanks George

Re: Tiller size (3 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
Does any on now the length of the tiller,as mine is missing most of it.Also is the top of it straight or is there a curve in it.I have the first 16 inches of it at the rudder so it will make it easier to make a new one.I bought the ash lumber and hope 7 ft will be enough.

12 years ago I had a new contessa 26 with a 32 lay up schedule hull and deck.I finished up all the rigging and but never finished the interior and was forced to sell it.I missed it for years and then started looking for another one by looking on the internet and yachtworld ect and nothing. Then just by fluke I found one in my back yard about 125 kms away.It is a J.J taylor like my last one.The name is Virunga. It is fully equipped for off shore.I am very excited about it.I will get the hull numbers and get back to you.Do you know if Tania may be at the Vancouver boat show? Thanks George
