I may have to re-power in a few years and I'm curious of the ball park cost for a new Yanmar 1GM10 and for having it professionally installed?

I will be picking and sailing my first sailboat home to NYC, a Contessa 26 from Lake Ontario via the Erie canal. I'm trying to figure out how long I should it expect it take me to sail/motor from Waterford, NY to NYC? Waterford is just north of Albany. Any input would be greatly appreciated..

Thank you for your input, I will have a looks at the eTrex, I agree about using traditional modes of navigation. I'm new to all this but have signed up for a navigation this summer..

I agree with 100%. The prior owner has done and incredible job, the surveyor told me he was amazed. Now it's mine to preserve for future owners. Would what makes you think it's not and 85? The only thing I wish I had that newer boats have is an anchor locker...but I aint complaing!

I may have to have a Contessa I just bought in Brighton, Ontario trailered to New London, CT. I'm trying to figure out how much that might cost and hoping that perhaps someone knows of reliable service in the Brighton, Ontario area. I got one quote from the Brighton area for $4500 which is way more that I want to pay and seems like a lot as New London is only 9 hours away.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on sailing my new Contessa from Lake Ontario home to Orient Point, Long Island in New York. I will be going down the Erie Canal > Hudson > New York City > Long Island Sound. I wondering if anyone has done a similar itinerary and might have some insight to share. I'm particularly interested on how long it might take me to reach New York City from Brighton Ontario > Oswego > the Erie Canal? Thanks!

So I thought I'd let everyone know that I'm the new owner of the 1972 Contessa 26 mentioned in my earlier post. I got the boat surveyed and it is fantastic condition which many system and structural improvements. I look forward to officially joining this community of Contessa owners as I'm sure I will be spending a lot of time on this site learning about the ins and outs of my new boat.
