Where does anyone recommend finding a good source of 3/8 main and jib halyards? What should a good cost be? I understand that the main should be about 74', how about the jib? Thanks!
PS Tiny Dancer went out for her first sail with new main, today. Beautiful weather, here in Alaska!

is it normal for the engine buzzer to go off when turning on the key? Goes off again when pushing the starter button and while running.

ours is 1/2 inch....can't fit through!!! Also, what is length of jib halyard? Mine is also 1/2 and need to replace to get through jam cleats. Thanks for feedback on stopper. Shannon, and all alcohol burners: do you really love your Origo? No seasickness from fumes? I'm on the verge of installing, and just heard bad reviews from old salt...
Thanks alot, Kristin

Re: Prop size (47 replies, posted in Technical)
Update on sea trial of Yanmar 1gm10 with old two blade 12x9 prop...we decided to repitch 1". What happened was that we couldn't get out of the piers, in reverse with side wind...had to get towed after getting banged around alot...prop guy said, "of course you couldn't get out in reverse, it is a two blade"! However once we got turned around, we were able to go over 7 knots at 3200 rpm....what???? Wasn't sure if that was ok, so backed down until we do the heat check from where the exaust comes out of the head. Oh, wow, how she cut through the water, I am sooo impressed, never having been on a Contessa. Will switch to the new mainsail and go again!

Please, those of you experienced sailors...I am being counseled to change the size of the main halyard as it too thick to pass through the lockdown cleats. How long and what kind of line should I buy? Is 3/8 ok? Does anyone know where to get a stopper for the mast groove , to stop the sail when lowering? Sorry for foggy terminolgy, still a baby...

Well, I found a 9' Zodiac on Amazon.com for $999 with a fold up floor and inflatable keel. It is about 70 lbs and rolls up nicely. Drawbacks, no easy rowing, need a small outboard, but here in Alaska, we like to go up lots of streams and into little shallow bays, so my inflatable kayak will be when just for me! Will let you know how it works out. Meanwhile, today is the big launch date!!! Send us some good energy, this is all brand new and a big, big first (and really scary). We will drop in from a sling and make our way to the harbor, after playing around a bit, you know!!

Re: Heater and stove (32 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
A bit more clarification and I'll have it wrapped up. Do you have to have the stove gimbaled so it faces and swings a certain direction? Shannon, I noticed in the pic you sent to me where they had extended the counter so the 2 burner was facing aft, was a drop in, so no swinging direction issue. Thanks so much for all your help!

I have a new to me, Yanmar 1GM and need to start it while in dry dock to make sure it runs before the big sling launch! Can't seem to get through to Yanmar site and manual doesn't have out of water starting. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is while out of the water? It has been dry docked for two years with under 500 miles on it. Thanks alot!

Re: Heater and stove (32 replies, posted in General Questions/Comments)
Ok, last stab at this...must ask advice as I cannot see the products in personuntil ordered. Does anyone recommend whether to drop the 2 burner Origo into the counter by the sink , or does gimbal mount make a huge difference? And...does anyone have experience with mounting the diesel heater above the starboard nav. table and icebox (directly under the vent)..with the plastic fuel tank on the other side of the wall or ceiling with a gravity feed set up? Does it distribute heat to the cabin floor well enough being that high up? There are pics of both ideas on the yachtworld site of the Contessa '78 for sale. Thanks so much!

Re: LINE KEEPERS and GPS (18 replies, posted in Technical)
OK! It is cleared with Todd at Beneteau to call him at 843-629-5320, if you want to order those super line keepers! Normally you have to be a Beneteau boat owner but any Contessas can call, though not order on- line. They are actually in 3 parts for the order that include the gray clete #007984, rope #010782, and screw #456098. They run around $5.95 each.
