Hi There - I tried the tigress flag clamps represented in your picture on my backstay - and nope they are no good, you have to put some tape on the stay to stop them from sliding down.  But I will try those flag clamps from Genco.

Cheers,

I am all for a race and a cruise. Would be happy to come from Kingston. Also if there is a meeting in Toronto at the time of the boat show I will attend.

Hi Just saw this - apologies for the late reply.  Did the boat come out okay?  Yes it is always fun taking her out with the strap so close to the prop and the rudder.  But so far using a line to bring the strap through and having a good view of the stern seems to work.  Hope your boat came out okay.

Congratulations!!!!  All the best.

When I got morava Bach in 2003 she was in Ottawa and I kept her there for three years. It was a great way to get to know her again but the reality of thinking I could go sailing during the weekdays didn't pan out as much as I would have liked. Plus it can get really crowded there. I then moved her to Kingston and while there is just the weekend the sailing is way better.

Adrian, as always thanks for your continued work on the site. I think next year is the year that morava will have a lot of work done on her. I will send pictures for sure.

Count me in for next year. I have morava hull number 266 in kingston and will gladly make the trip to Toronto. Can't do this year as I am on the west coast for the summer. Have a great time

I cannot believe how the time goes by - when I posted my orginal request regarding furlers it was the end of 2008 and already two sailing seasons have gone by and I still have not bought a furling system - though I have looked up the various types - so I think this Christmas I will buy myself a very nice gift - I will keep you posted.

Wow that should be interesting - look forward to hearing how this works out.

Cheers.

The only thing I am ware of is, is that your best bet would be to take it out, and let the sludge drip out and then try to slosh around some diesel fuel to break it up - not very scientific  - I am not aware of any products out there but there might be.  I think the sludge is actual residue from the tank over time and from the fuel as it sits for a long period of time

Hi - Morava is a 1980 - and the lines leading aft where added later but I still have the two original winches on the mast - they are placed just above the goose-neck for the boom and are on pads - I will post a picture of it in the technical section.

Hi - no prices when I asked - not even European prices they told me to contact Farymann in Europe - as far as I can tell the Yellow marine River Star is pretty close to the old K34M.

I agree about the mooring fees - that is why I was also curious about the Dana 24 and while I still love my Contessa 26 ; -)

Hi I did contact the company reagdring the price of their Yellow Marine Start 18W and it is not sold in North America - only in Europe - too bad.

Ah all good advice . and right now I am just doing the typical thing of dreaming as to where I hope to go ; -)

Very useful considerations - I agree that "going now" is a good philosophy and a bigger boat would be more comfortable.  And I do like the look of the 32's and I am for not puring my very small cash reserves into the boat.

While I like to look at the Dana's and the 32's, my gut is to stick with Morava, as the ownership cost is already sunk in her, plus the small improvements I have made and perhaps as a start all I really need is the costs of good self steering gear - and perhaps replacing my engine - then of course I can go nuts with the list of nice things to have ;-)

Cheers

I have the Farymann K34M and I am pretty sure I don't have one.

Hi John - I have had to start Morava several times by hand crank given I think there is a problem with my battery connections and charger.  All I can tell you is that it starts every time - but all I do is just crank that sucker up - not much help I am afraid.

Hi:

A question for debate - if you where going to do some extended cruising, would you take the Contessa 26 or go for a Dana 24?

Now I really enjoy my Contessa 26 and have had a great time sailing her and doing small trips in the 1000 Islands.  I have never sailed a Dana 24 so do not know how she performs.

To get Morava ready for a long cruise I am looking at retro-fitting her for approximately $40,000 CAD.  Compare that to getting a used Dana in good shape for approximately $50,000 CAD.  A brand new Dana with the basics starts at $149,000 USD.

So any views - what are the considerations?

I thing the Contessa marginally sails better (and of course that is also up to the Skipper), but the Dana has a better layout down below.

Just some thoughts.

Hey this is really handy - thanks John.

I know it looks very promising - I hope to be down there first weekend of April to start getting Morava ready.

Fingers crossed the weather keeps going the way it has.

Wow - that is a good deal - Collins bay is running me about $780.00 plus tax.

Thanks for the info.

Interesting differences in the lengths - I wonder why - and these are long booms to begin with.

Thanks for the link to South Shore Yachts.
