"There's a limit of 4MB of uploaded pictures per person, but this is something I can certianly consider increasing if we find it too limiting."

actually i would hope the images wouldn't be over 200k !

you might want to post some basic instructions for people about image files

otherwise -- i just tried to upload and got -- "The selected album/file does not exist !"

i'm running firefox 1.5.0.1
mac os X

hi

with all the requests for photos.....

it would be super cool to be able to upload photos to this site, so that we could share them with everyone. especially ones detailing repair, new dodger, cool solutions to problems, etc -- would be a great resource for new people as well.

thanks for considering it...

yes i've learned very well how 'absorbent' the regular foam is, believe me!

actually they have gotten soaked and eventually dried out, so its not impossible.

its the rainy season here in nor cal -- my front hatch is leaky and water condenses even when its not raining, so i ended up just putting the front (bow) cushions in storage until the rainy season subsides. then again its so cramped up there, maybe i'll just keep it for storage...

the cushions in the main cabin get kind of wet from all the condensation (see my other post trying to solve that issue) but its not quite as bad.

doing the cushions with just closed cell looks expensive so i might do a layer of closed cell on the bottom, and something else on top of that. seems like the water usually comes in from underneath so that would provide a barrier. just wanted to see if people had sources/ideas etc....

ahh yes -- those 30 year old cushions. although its amazing that they are still there after 30 years, its just not very comfy to sit on, much less sleep. the fabric itself (with the nagahyde on the bottom) is still actually in pretty good shape, so i'm thinking i can just replace the foam inside.

i've heard closed cell foam is wonderous, also heard that you can do one layer of closed cell on the bottom, and regular or egg shell foam on top of that.

any reccs? good cheap sources to buy? should i just take some foam camping pads and cut them to fit?

tia!

to dodger or not

does the dodger mainly make a difference when its raining?

and can you really see anything besides birds out of those windows when you are sitting down and holding the tiller?

(i like the idea of the dodger sheltering the door when its raining. and tania had one so they must be cool!)

just read the message from the admin about trying to sell the site.

i want everyone to know --
if this forum sinks -- i can provide hosting and a bulletin board for free. it would take me just a few minutes to set up. i'm a web designer and host clients, so it would not cost me very much to host the site. a domain name is $7, and the bulletin board software is free.

one thing i would REALLY like to see for this group -- an easy way for people to upload images! i hear about all these great contessa pix, especially the work in progress ones -- it would be great to have a way to easily share those w. everyone, and build up a repositary of knowledge about these great boats. there are pix on some peoples websites, but the reality is many of those sites will not be around in ten years.

for me and other newbies this board is about the only way to get specific information about the contessa 26. the information that is shared will still be valuable in ten years and is well worth preserving.

i have an origo (non pressurized alcohol stove) and really like it.
i've left it on for hours on a low flame to heat the boat (while i was there) and never had a problem. one burner heats the cabin very quickly.

it is a pain to refill especially when the boat is pitching around -- someone on the other list suggested using a turkey baster for refilling the cannister. i finally tried that and it works much better, but i'd like some kind of pump i can just put on the gallon jug.

i can well imagine people not bothering to take the cannister out of the metal frame to refill it -- which could easily lead to a fire since some alcohol would spill.

mine is a two burner -- but i only use the burner closer to the middle of the boat. the other burner is too close to the fiberglass and window frame for my liking.

i only use the origo branded no soot alcohol. i'm pretty sensitive to fumes and i've never had a problem with it.

note that -- when you talk about pressurized alcohol stoves -- you are not talking about an origo. they are very different.

the problem with the inboard is that unless you get folding props, you will have drag from the propellors. with an outboard you just lift it up and boom no drag.

i think unless you were going to go long distance cruising, that an outboard is probably the best way to go. not to mention you'll sail faster without all that weight of a diesel.

what is the angle of the transom on a contessa ...?

i need to install an outboard mounting bracket on my contessa

any thoughts or recomendations as to brand or model...?

anything to help figure out where on the transom i should put it would be very helpful!

thanks!
