Ivan,

How do they thread the strap through your rudder ? It will prevent the problem of positioning the strap in the correct place, to prevent them from getting caught on the cradle, when the boat is lowered. ( as we had to fight with mine this haul out ) As well as low water conditions we had last year, with the straps getting caught under the rudder.

Cheers,

Jim

Ivan,

I have also been looking at changing to a furler, have been in contact with Ultrafurl in Toronto. Appealing to me, as they also recut sails for furler use. (as I have a newer Genoa, I am tempted to go this way)
The season has flown by and I have not ordered. If I do decide to order I will let you know how it works out. If have the instructions on installation, and it appears pretty straight forward. ( they also will install for you )

Ivan,

If you can get your hands on a past issue of Good Old Boat magazine, in the July/August, 07 edition, there is an article on Allan Nye Scott.
The fellow responsible for bringing the production of Contessa's to Canada. When he left JJ Taylor, he set up a shop in Kingston to build Alberg's.
At the time of the article he had changed to refurbishing sailboats, namely Contessa and Albergs.  I cannot recall if they mentioned a current company name or address.
Found name in yellow pages, "Nye Boat Works", Foxboro, On., 613-771-9570, near Belleville.

Thanks, Kodiak.

The link works.

Perfect timing, at this time of year, waiting for the spring launch to arrive,  able to read about such an adventure !

I am in Bayfield, only an hours drive from Waterloo, with a '73 Contessa. You are most welcome. I am there most weekends, or with enough notice can make it during the week.

Thanks Deb. I have been looking for a tiller lock like this for a while now. I ahve ordered and received from Cansail. Looking forward to installing this weekend. And thanks for the tip on the type of rope to use.

Hi Shannon,

Glad to hear everything has worked out for you. It is great to have you back. I am sure everything will work out. Look forward to hearing of your plans for renewal on your new boat !

I am posting this question again in hopes that someone has same set up as my 73, for boom bang connection to boom. It is similar to "key hole" arrangement on plate attached to underside of boom. Unable to find fitting that would attach block to boom.

John,

My boat came with the "in-hull" transducer set up. I have posted a pic off a web site that is similar to my set up. From what I have read, this set up may not be as accurate as thru hull. If you do not want to add a hole, seems to be the way to go. I do not believe mine is a special transducer. Some info from web sites say unless it is aluminum hull, not required.

I also have the Vire 7. The cloudy gearbox oil, some say is a problem and other mechanics have told me not to worry about . I try to change it a few times a season.
Have you tried the Vire & web site, full of great info on this engine.

John,

The dimensions I gave Lee Sails where off this site, for I and J, they will compute the P mesurement based on this, as mine is also in winter storage. They recommended measuring my current sails for comparison,  my current Genoa I measures 32.5' , and that is without being able to stretch the leach as much as possible.

Lee sails were pretty confident that the I and J they have on record would fit my boat.

Thanks, for the info., Jose.

I am going with Lee Sails, 135 Genoa, for about the same price as Shore Line( I was surprised, however Lee has a fall time special on until Nov 15) . Main reason is I have seen the Lee sails up close on another boat and was impressed with the work and style.
