Can you be so nice and talk to our US Coast Guard for me . . . please.  I need the big eye blinking at them.

Adrian,  The contessa 26 forum website link is now on the "Spirit of Canada" website under my name (actually next to my name).  You can see it on the Donor - $500 level - Marketing (I believe), #2833 - near the bottom.  This was the best I could do for us. So we are on the big time list.  I wonder how many of us Contessa 26 have given Spirit of Canada donation?  Maybe we can show a show-of-hands for them to see how there little sister Canadian made boat is supporting Spirit of Canada.  Anyone else helping them out?  Maybe we can the Firum name on the boat when it goes around the world!

The new owner of  Varuna is in Harpswell, Maine!  Just down the road from my parents and just up the road from SMH.  It is a small world and we should welcome him aboard and ask for pictures of the famous boat.  You can see a picture of Varuna in its new home when viewing the localtion/regrister map on home page.

The following e-mail came to me about this boat, as I inquired about wanting to see it.  It is amazing.

Mr. Lee,
The auction process turned out to be a nightmare. I had a "cash on the barrelhead" buyer appear with a generous offer and I sold the boat. I've removed the website.
Thanks for your interest,
Steve

So, if you want a boat, buy it!

I am looking into the process of regristering a Contessa 26 with the US Goast Guard but have fallen into the same trap that Dave Morgan and Newell Decker did with their regristing (read "Bad Dog vs. the Landlubberly Bureaucrats" on home page).  The CG on-line "simplified measurement" CG-5397 formula (have the official instr. document on the formula) puts a Contessa 26 at 4 tons due to the keel factor of 0.75 (hull designed for sailing) and not 6.12 tons using 1.0 factor that Dave and Newell used.  Has anyone tried to regrister their boat thru CG recently?  Is there anyone out there with a CG regrister Contessa 26?  Help.....

Since there are 4 For Sale boats in the For Sale folder and I know of 3 more contessas;-) should we not just have a listing like on the "Pocket Cruiser" with the boat's year, location, price and e-mail address or website connetion with further info?  It seem to be that time of year.  Also, there might be items like contessa trailers or other odds and ends for sale;-)  A Stop and Go shopping spot.  Just a throught.

One way of doing this is to have a pulley attach to a stanchen up towards the bow then tie a sheet to boom then through the pulley then back to your sheet winches.  This way you have control over you boom, which is very important.

I was at the helm on a 39 foot when we used a rope using a butterfly knot from boom to stanchen (premanent tie down) when we go hit with a 40+ knot wind gust that lasted 5+ minutes that turned the boat to port hard.  I thought okay, just go up into the wind to ease wind off the sails.  I forgot the preventer and everyone on board jumped at me to turn the boat around as the preventer if caught in the wind on the other side of the sail would or could have blown us over.  Once we got everything under control, I decided never to be catch in that position with a permanent tie down preventer again.  I saw the above set up in a book, but I can not find the picture at present.

I have minimal exposure to this but when I was on Dennis Gray contressa last year, he stated that when he was in the yearly race across the Mobile Bay, he could sail faster because of his 2-blade then the other contessa in the marina that had a 3-blade.  If you sailing, the extra blade does create an extra drag but if you need speed or power 3-blade maybe better.

This is the boat that I talked about a little while ago.  The owner has already bought another one 30+ feet and is looking to find a home for his contessa 26 boat.  I believe he lives near the Ontario border, close to a highway and knows a carrier who can ship the boats at a good price.  He seem to be a nice person, but then he was e-mailing and anyone can sound nice.  At least 3 or 4 people got ahold of me for the info on this boat, same as the website, so there is interest.

The new GeoMap is really great and it helps the table as one can get a feeling of how many (so far) are grouped closely together around Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.  We do need more boat regristering, especially you JR's.  Adrian, you have done a really great job on putting this forum together, hats off to you.

Well, #129 was sold on ebay after 14 bid (half by one person) for $1,550 to a 228samuel.  Too bad we can not get their e-mail address so we can get him on line so when he rebuilds her, we can give advise when requested.

Adrian,  You might want to either remove the "3 more Found" folder or remove the old table inside it or I can just delete it so it is not confusing to others.  Besides that folder is a mess inside itself.  You have done a great job with the table and the GeoMap.  Just a note, the table you used is not as complete as the one I had, if you review the old one to the one on the regrister. Can you edit ones info on the Geomap.  Did not see that function. Thank!

If I had your talent on webpage mastering, I would too.  One though, link to the Folkboat people, if there is one?  Also what about that other Canadian made sailboat, Spirit of Canada?  I have given my fair share to them, maybe I can ask to get this website on their webpage? Just thinking outloud.

Has anyone heard from SkipperT, he was looking for a cheap boat to work on!
Just a note, this is #129 Hull # JJT081290575, thus a 1975 not a 1976 as they state.  It is on the contessa list as looking for a new home.

There is another boat, Cobra in BC Canada that is up for sale, 1982, I believe $18,000CAD.

The new homw page looks really great!

Just a note, on the opening discussion of the history of the Contessa, we should say we were one of the first fibergrass version of the Folkboat and IF Folkboat that originated in 1939(?) and that JR got a license to build his version.  There is or was a fiberglass version of the IF Boat once.  Anyway, the Contessa does a long past history.

The Lake Ontario Rendezvous sounds great, if I can find a boat by then, but do remember that Shannon will one one on the west coats of BC.

Is this site going to redo some of the links we had under the Pocket Cruiser, ie., Bika trip, etc.?  We could have links to the different coast guard sites for Canada, USA, and Britain(?) for into for regristration etc.  There must be other useful links but my brain went completely blank on me.

For myself, I will be looking for a Navik windvane whenever I find a contessa 26 for myself.  To me it does not over shadow the stern of the boat as it it built for 30 foot or less sailboats.

We are looking at combining the fleet regrister with Contessa list, a work in progress as they say.  I just hope we can work faster then a turtle (aka work in progress);-)

I was thinking at an opening webpage we would have the JJT Contessa 26 design page from the manufacture that tells everyone what a Contessa 26 is.  We should have a JR contessa photos also as we are related (the original color contessa 26 on the pocket cruiser was a JR contessa).  Still, I am impressed with how fast and nice this forum came together.

I am looking for a post 1983-Contessa (1983-1990) in good sailing condition.  If it does not come with a windvane, I will be looking for one, Navik would be perferred.  Eastern half US/Canada would be nice but will travel to the west coast. e-mail John at  larix9ATyahoo.com (Feb 15, 2006)
