Hey, Great!  I will be travelling right past there later Saturday evening.  I'll try to pop in.  I'd love to hear your stories.  Suzeh.

Hi John!  Sure, by all means.  It would be nice to visit again and to hear all your Contessa and firefighting stories....not to mention having a look at all you've done to your boat!  Send me an email when you're travel details are figured out and we'll set something up.  Sue.

Wow!  What a co-inky-dink!  I was thinking about driving over to Lake Huron to say good-bye to the beach on the long weekend.  If you're around and available, I'd LOVE to visit you and your boat.  Bayfield is such a nice little town.  I'll try not to inundate you with too many questions and the beer (or other suitable refreshment) is on me.  My email is <suzeh@rogers.com>.  Give me a shout and we'll set up a convenient time.  Suzeh

I'm considering buying a Contessa 26 that is presently on the hard and needs some work.  I'd like an opportunity to sail on a sister ship to see how it sails and if I can  get the mainsail up etc. (my last boat was only 17' and very easy to sail).  Is there anyone in the southern Ontario area that would be willing to take me out for a short sail??  Suzeh

If there's going to be a get together or presentation in the Toronto or surrounding area I'd like to attend.  I don't have a Contessa (yet... but hopefully someday...soon) but I've been following your journey on the net and it would top off my summer to meet you in person and hear a few tales.  Keep us posted.  Suzeh.

Now there's an option I hadn't considered.  Good tip.  I had no luck whatsoever with the Searail folks.  They just said no, no and no to every question I asked them.  And trucking was pretty costly.  Unfortunately the boat out East didn't work out for me.  But if, um I mean WHEN my boat finds me, if it happens to be on the East coast, I'll be checking out the ferry for sure.  In the meantime I'll have to be content with reading the "for sale" ads and crewing wherever I can.

I'm in the market for a Contessa 26 in good shape.  Preferrably (but not necessarily) a post '83 and preferrably in Ontario or not too far away.  Suzeh

I'm shopping for new (to me) boat and I'm considering a couple of Contessas in Nova Scotia.  I live in Ontario so I'd have to transport it somehow.  Would you mind sharing the name of your transport company?  Just trying to get a handle on costs and what's all involved.  Any other recommendations would be appreciated too!  Tks. Suzeh.

Just a recommendation....  It sounds like you're from Ontario (Kingston?)  I've taken a few courses from different schools.  I would definitely recommend that you stick with a course that offers certification.   Out of the five schools I've taken courses with, I have been the most pleased with Humber Power and Sailing Centre in Toronto.  I believe they offer courses travelling between Toronto and Kingston.  Suzeh.

Sorry I missed the gathering.  I had meant to be there, but life (well, actually work) got in the way.  I would have loved to hear the stories.  Maybe next year!
Suzeh.

I'm not a contessa owner yet either.....but maybe soon! I'm shopping (again). The 13th works for me.  Looking forward to it.  Maybe someone will be able to point me in the direction of a good buy.
I'm up for dinner afterward too.
Suzeh.

Hey John. I'm game - either w/e is good.  I'll probably be attending the T.O. Boat show again this year (remember, we ran into each other last year in line waiting to get our books autographed by Tania Aebi)  It would be fun to put some more faces to names.  Suzeh.

Wow!  Congratulations John.  I know you've been waiting awhile to get out there.  Sounds like your boat is delivering as much as you'd hoped for.  Suzeh

Does anyone have a picture of a Contessa26 with a bubble hatch that they could post or email to me? I've never seen one and I'm curious.  Suzeh.

Oh Shannon! I've been lurking on this site for awhile now and I'm so sad to hear your news.  I'm a woman just taking some sailing lessons and dreaming of owning my own Co26 when I'm ready.  Your posts have always been very inspirational to me and made me think "yeah, maybe I CAN do this."  A Rhiannon without her Shannon is like butter without its bread or a carriage without its horse!  I'm sending as many good vibes as I can across the country to help your circumstances change. Too bad you're not here in central Canada or maybe we could have worked something out.  Suzeh.

Hi John. Here's some info on buying a used boat in Canada.  If you scroll down to the bottom, under the "licencing and registration" section it says that most Canadians have to pay PST (provincial sales tax) but not GST (federal sales tax -- the "G" stands for "gouging" I think) unless the boat is imported from the States. Sorry, nothing about going the other way.
I'm trying to get a handle on all these details too. Can anyone recommend a good resource or website?  What about checking for liens on used boats. Does anyone know how to do that?
Sadie
