Hi all,

Anyone know of someone in ME/NH that might rent me jack stands.  Closest costal areas to me are Portland ME
and Portsmouth NH.

Thanks

Just a reminder that Merrill's nice article "Winterizing for very chilly
conditions" in the Tech notes section pretty much covers everything.

Hi John,

My boat is a JJT '78 and it's registered with the USCG.  I bought it
last year and transfered the documentation in the spring of this
year.  I'm not sure when it was originally documented, but probably from
the very beginning as I bought the boat from the original owner.
Perhaps the net tonnage requirement was lower in the past and there is
some grandfather clause.  Have you tried talking to them over the phone?
Send me an email and I'll send you the official number.

Best,
Marc

How about this (stolen from the oarclub forum on how to get out of a
slip and through a narrow waterway, dead upwind, without an engine): set
a kedge anchor with light chain so it lays on the bottom.  Fix the
inboard end at your slip.  Just pull yourself out, leaving the chain on
the bottom as you go.

The forum went down earlier the summer and was supposed to return Aug
31.  Nothing has happened and now the site is going to expire??

Sorry, I missed a previous thread on this.  It seems that 36' is
a reasonable estimate of mast height from waterline.

Hi, wondering what total height of the JJT version is from boot strip to
top of mast.  If it varies, what's an upper bound?

Thanks,
Marc

Only ones that don't have a core--for sure--are the UK boats.  I asked
Jeremy Rodgers myself.

Great! Thank you,

Hi,

I'd like to order new lettering for my JJT.  I'm 4hrs away from my boat
so I was wondering if anyone can tell me the length of useable space on
the transom, on both sides of the rudder?

Thanks,
Marc

If it helps anyone, I just paid 14,900 for the '78 contessa advertised
on pocketcruisers.com.  I copied the specs below.  As far as I know, If
you're not working with a broker, it's not easy to find data on closing
sale prices.    If you go by BucValue, you'll find a range of 9,500 -
13,500 for a mid-atlantic/northeast '70s boat which is clearly off.

I think that the range of 12k - 18k that Merrill specified is a useful
piece of information, and not easy to determine on your own.

1978 Contessa 26 JJT Hull # 209 - Documented. One owner. Westerbeke 10hp
2 cyl rebuilt 2003; Hood sails - Main 1996, working jib 2005, genoa.
Hood SeaFurl. Horizon Eclipse VHF; Horizon SL45 knot/log; Horizon DS45
digital depth sounder; handheld Garmin GPS 12; Head with holding tank
plus portable toilet; Seacook gimballed stove 2005; Magma barbeque 2005;
Chartkit navigation plotter; 20# CQR anchor; 13# Danforth anchor; anchor
rodes and docklines. Located Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Ready to launch.

I seem to recall some discussion on the pocket cruisers board
a while back about putting together a list of sale prices/specs
for contessas.  Has such a list been compiled?  If not, any suggestions on maybe a base rate for a Contessa?

Thanks,
Marc
