I am looking at ordering a new 155% Genoa from Shoreline Sails in Toronto. Has anyone had any dealings with this company ?

Thanks

Jim

On my 73 Contessa, I have not installed the boom vang. Not sure which connection is required on boom to fit key hole type plate on underside of boom, to fit to block. One marine outfitter has suggested fitting boom with a  boom bail and attaching schackle. I would prefer something with a more rigid connection.

I have been advised to change my original, Gibb, closed turnbuckles with open style. (ease in detecing when opened or closed)

Has anyone done this and any specific make used ?

I have had fun with my Vire 7 this year, (my first season) started off fine. Continued to stall, always at the wrong time. Went through new points, condenser, coil, carb., finally found out timing was way off. My guess was that the alignment plate was loose and shifting. Almost got to the point of repowering in diesel, reluctantly, as
I have an aversion to the smell.

Now I have about a month of sailing left to make up for lost time !

She sounds great and runs like a charm. Except for that gear oil that turns a cloudy yellow colour, hopefully that can wait until she is hauled out in the winter.

I am having trouble raising my headsail. The last two hanks like to get caught on the forestay turnbuckle, ( original gibb), preventing from raising sail fully.

Is there any device on the market to attach to forestay that would preevent hanks from falling down to the deck ?

On Sunday, May 7, Contessa # 312, Vixen, set off from port Stanley, Lake Erie, thru Erie Canal, New York and finish in Cape Town. via, the Azores, Portugal, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, onto Cape Town.

She'll return home by way of St. Helena Island, Fernando de Noronha, an island off Brazil, and Bermuda.

Nelleke Kersten is planning to complete the round trip in 14 months.

She's doing the trip alone aboard a 26-footer she said is ideally suited to a solo ocean crossing.

Jim,

I am also considering adding a traveller. Would you be able to give specifics on what you purchased ?

If you have pics are you going to post ?

Thanks

Jim

Richard,

Taken off of Gov't Canada web site, re: boat licence"The Pleasure Craft Licence is free of charge and transferable to any subsequent owner of the vessel. The licence must be carried on board the vessel at all times.  However, a licence is not a Title Document. Operators must therefore also carry other documents (such as a document that establishes ownership or registration) in order to help avoid/reduce delays clearing US-Canada customs or in case of a fine.

Not a title document, therefore would not reveal any liens.

No. 3 on your question, appears to be unclear for "used" boats.

How would one go about obtaining a "Builder's Certificate". I have been told my CO26 is a 1973, would like to confirm and verify hull number.

Adrian, I am just a little envious. Received notice of my launch date, not until May 20. You could reach the Bahamas by the time I get in the water. Being new to sailing, I haven't fully grasped the reasoning behind the launch and haul out dates, and why they vary so much. Although in our marina the use of a crane has something to do with the delay, and possibly the colder climate on Lake Huron. Since you are in a "tropical" climate, what is your haul out date ?

Although on the positive side, i will have an extra 5 weeeks to prepare for sailing. No, I'd rather be sailing !

Enjoy !

Chris,

Thanks for the DVD ! The pictures and story are excellent ! I highly recommend it for anyone owning a sailboat, especially if she is a Contessa.

Good luck on your future adventures. I am sure you will enjoy on the 32, I had the pleasure of sailing one last fall. I am looking forward to sailing on my 26 for the first time in the spring.

After watching your film, I am envious that I am not closer to the ocean, who knows maybe one day.

Thanks agains.

Yes, John, I was speaking to Tania at the Boat Show, and she also mentioned she had contact with Shannon. ( I was also impressed)

I was going to contact Shannon, and tell her I had spoke to Tania and shook her hand,  since the two are good friends, no need.

Shannon, I was a little dumb struck to say the least to meet Tania.

I am looking at replacing all current sheets and halyards, and was wondering what would be the easiset way to accomplish. Are there any specs around for a 1973-JJT ? Halyards are still on mast, laid on deck. Sheet measurements will be easy, concerned about specs of line.
Or if this topic already discussed, pointing me to posting would be appreciated.

Depending on your arrival time in New York, you may experience ice on the Great Lakes. Distance from New York to Thunder Bay, approx. 1600 km. and another 3600, from Thunder Bay to Vancouver.

You will most certainly enjly winter in the Thunder Bay area.

All the best on your voyage !
