What about the cockpit drain seacocks? These are the only I don't close...

Saltycruiser,
Are you bringing your boat back to the Bay State?

An while I'm logged in let me ask those who may know about Monitor vs Cape Horn.
Steering gear is on my wish list for EQUINOX but from what I've read there does'nt seem to be a clear winner.
Any and all thoughts greatly apprecciated.
Thanx always....

Adrian,
Is there some way we can get Evald in touch with me regarding his inquiries about the trailer for Equinox.
I don't care to have my email address on this website after  the spam attacks  we just experienced.
Suggestions....

Thanx,

If my boat didn't have the toerail scupper for the deck then I would either cut the toerail and do some  handy-work with epoxy to smooth  out the rough edges or put a drain on the deck either side of the cockpit, draining out through a thru hull in the transom above the waterline. Either of these should work without to much trouble.
I think the existing (stock) cockpit drains are a little to small for this boat going to sea as they are. I have always thought about a large scupper (2" inches or more square or round)  in the center and out through the back wall of the cockpit just above the cockpit sole and some how out through the transom with a flapper door of some kind to prevent a back flow from a following sea. This would quickly remove most of the water from a flooded cockpit leaving the last one to two inches of water for the existing cockpit drains.

Documentation:
I've gone to the USCG vessel documentation site and using the interactive simplified measurement form I find that the co26 isn't eligible for documentation using the "integral keel" hull shape (which I would say it is).  Check "distinct keel or no keel" and she measures 5 tons. This works but this is not really a co26 hull.
What have  other documented co26 owners done?

Two things:
- Now that EQUINOX is out of Tim's shop where it was cared for and coddled it is now at its' mooring in Mass. where I'm left to my own devices. Presently I'm trying  to figure out the boom outhaul, reefing and mainsail tack. My main sail has three reefs and there are three lines in the boom running forward to three stoppers at the forward end. The outboard end of these lines run through three sheaves and out.. Are these three lines for the three reefs or is the center line for the outhaul and the two on either side for two of the three reefs?  The gooseneck at the mast has a double reef hook but no way of fastening  mainsail, tack.  My rig is a 1986 Crindel.
-I've got a low hour Bukh DV8 that needs a home.

Steve,
Where in Maine are you? It would be nice to have a New England gathering. There are several of us here in the Northeast.
Bob

Ivan,
On that expense of shipping to Maine. Talk with Tim Lackey. You may be surprised to find that you may save the additional shipping cost to Maine in just a few weeks at his rates. His work is a very very  good value.
Bob

EQUINOX has landed and has been launched (in that order). Prettiest boat in the mooring field.
I hope to have more for you later with photos.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm very grateful to you or anyone for running this site. I only suggest there "may be" another way.
Re: 1gm10 vs Beta. Another topic another time. Thank you

Website manager:
There has been an obvious lack of traffic on this site for the past year or so, my guess because of all  this spam.
Would it be better to just shut  this site down and reopen with some gateway complicated enough to keep out the spammers? I visit a couple of boat related sites that have been up for awhile that  gateways for entering which seem to work. I know  nothing about websites and beckon to those who do before we lose this fun and valuable source of information for us and our boats.

My  Bukh DV-8  is available.
It has low hours, how many I don't know.
There's no rust on the motor. The paint is flaking off however but the paint does still have its' new luster.
It looks very good!
I also have the mounts, panel, wiring harness, parts manual, shop manual and owners manual, seven new oil filters, new temp. sender switch and a new spare impeller. I also have the manuals on CD.
I have never run it. The motor was run by the surveyor four years ago when I bought the boat but I was not there at the time. I do have his report though.
I think this would be a good bet if you were repowering and wanted to replace your old Bukh with this and use your old motor for a valuable source of parts.
It has different value to different people. I don't want to give it away.
I'm selling this because I've repowered with a new Beta 13.5. I just wanted a new motor for my refitted boat...

That sounds like a pretty big job with little room for error (misalignment). I've pretty much decided on a an 11" three blade. Should I ever make a Bermuda run (should I ever live so long) I would replace it with a two blade or possibly a three blade Maxi prop.
Why in the world would you change that rig???

Jim,
No. The Bukh is out of the boat and is in Maine as I write. All things willing however, I'll have the motor back here in Mass. later this week when I deliver to new motor to Maine for the installation.
Tim, the boat refit "guy" has made a cradle for the Bukh and is ready to go!!

I agree! A nice "new" plastic tank would be great.
I've checked West, Hamilton Marine and Defenders for a plastic tank. Nothing close to the original.
I would like something as close to a 10gal as possible. I don't like the idea or wrestling with jerry cans in a seaway.
I would trust Tim's judgement on this. I don't want to go the custom alum. route ($$$$$).
Know of a plastic tank that will work?

It was physically broken when removing the engine. It got caught on the edge of cockpit sole.
This part wasn't made exclusively for exotic Bukh diesels. I'm still looking....

For Bukh owners Bob Bain in NJ is still in operation  at rbainnjmdiesels@hotmail.com.
I just got an email letting me know he has the water temp. switch for my DV-8, $270.25 plus $10 shipping......Maybe it's me....

Part of the repowering with  a 13.5 Beta, is a new prop. The old prop., a 12x12 two blade with the 10hp Bukh, clears the top of the aperture by only 3/8" of an inch. Way to close by all those who seem to know. Suggestions have included an 11" three blade, a 11" large area two blade, of course the 11" three blade Maxi ($2300) and last but not least opening up the aperture an inch and using a 12" prop. Yes, I'm soliciting even more suggestions and opinions to make this whole project even more complicated then it already is...
Then there is the panel installation location. The old panel was inside the cabin. The Beta guy says the panel should be in the cockpit where I have ready access to the starter, kill switch and guages. Reasonable! But then there is that chance of a boarding wave and the new many dollar panel instantly becoming junk. I thought about having the panel in the cabin with either alarms or warning lights installed somewhere in the cockpit. At least this way I'd be alerted to an impending engine meltdown.
Fuel tank and filter(s) - The 10 gallon steel tank has yet to be removed. Yet to be removed if it can be removed.
It is a very tight fit. Not sure what we'll find. If replacement is in the cards will it be an off-self, steel, alum., plastic tank or a custom tank? Does anyone know? It's under the starboard cockpit settee.
I went to a diesel owners one day class this past Sat. I was  about half way through this when I started wondering if I could get by with an outboard. TO LATE NOW! These are complicated little beasts. Part of keeping them happy is to have plenty of clean dry fuel. Read multiple fuel filters. It's probably not enough to have just the engine fuel filter but necessary to have a remote "primary " filter first in line. Another three hundred bucks.

In my refit it has been suggested I use a rigid boom vang rather then have a traveller fabricated. Have any of you used a rigid boom vang on a Contessa?
Garhauer has some very good stuff at relatively resesonable prices.
What's your take ??
