Cool, I look forward to watching your progress, LaDonna....I have seen and read the start of yours just before I bought mine....and you have lots of great detail and...lots of supposed-to-be-fun work ahead, as I am sure I do!

Thank you for keeping your blog up to date, I will be setting mine up when I get closer to the date when I can actually touch her....up to three weeks on a train, I believe, and not sure if she left today or not...if not, then next Friday she will start her slow but sure jaunt....just like in the water...Ok, I'm getting silly, later!!!!

Hey, again!!!!  Nothing like answering my own posts, hey? GRIN!!!

I have not yet thought of a name, ok, I fibbed, I have been, not sure if she will be a slightly different version of past name, or a new name showing her and my independent spirt, or a third name I have been toying with.....however, it will be a powerful female figure, whatever her name!

I sold the Navik with the "old" boat, sniff....but will likely get something else similar...but not sure how well balanced she will be, so not sure what type to get....I am leaning towards the easiest to install, however, as I dislike putting holes in the boat...but alas, it is really up in the air, as if another good deal comes by on any windvane, I will buy first and ask questions later, heh heh!!!

Her name now is Ketchi Manitou, not sure what that means....and yes, is seems like she found me, as I was not looking....oh, I kind of was, but not really......oh heck, I am fibbing alot, aren't I?!   Thanks again, I am so glad to be back........

I will also do a writeup on her transport from Montreal to Vancouver by Train...very surprisingly cheap, $1,500, but she must be on a trailer.  I am trying to get pics of her on the train, too!

Oh, you guys are so awesomely wonderful...I am so glad to be back!!!

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement and the kind "my boat was in way worse shape", how gallant of you men!  :-)

And thank you for all your fine words, *blush*, I look forward to all our discussions and ideas and pictures we will be trading back and forth.....

I am going to set up a cool website like some of you have (the Frapper thing? Myspace?! ) and whatever they are, and I will do a neat blog like some of you again have done....as that is so fun to see how everyone is progressing, as well as read their accomplishments that day...ie "removed toerail, banged head 15 times, dropped drill in water, found wrench in bilge", etc...

And I look forward to learning about the Petter.....Yes, Peter, I will be calling on you and others who own the same beast...

Until then...I hold my breath until she arrives......

Hello again, everyone, and you are NOT going to believe it....BUT............remember when I said the only way I could afford another Contessa 26 was if I found one for $5,000 Canadian.............well, I DID!!!!1

I AM SO EXCITED I CANNOT EVEN THINK STRAIGHT, AND IT WAS SO HARD KEEPING THE SECRET FROM YOU ALL UNTIL I KNEW IT HAD HAPPENED!!!!

I know you are wondering which boat.....and for me, it is older than my last love........but  I look at it as if her and I have just been "to hell and back", as she's a 1976 (AM STILL TRYING TO DETERMINE, PAPERS ARRIVING SOON) , and will need lots of TLC....but she is BEAUTIFUL TO ME!!!
I am so happy....and I have to say it was one of you guys on this site....(and all of you have been so good while I went through my own private hell that led to me loosing my first Co26...) that sent me the latest Boat for Sale link that had the Contessas for sale and I bought the $5,500 one!!!
She is a registered vessel, black hull, (I LOVE those dark hulls, yes!!!)  Trailer!!!  Cradle!!!  And an apparently running Petter engine............oh my heavens I am SOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!

Let's just say that I was a tad nervous whilst depositing thousands of dollars into a strange man's bank account with nothing but hope, and faith?!?!  that I would receive a boat in return, har har!!!
However, he is a broker with a reputation, and has already setup the boat to be "put on the rails", so she is coming out to me by train (and was only $1,400 to do that!!!!!)........that's right, I bought her sight unseen, (except for pictures) and no survey, ETC!!  So, I broke all rules in the book, (and believe me, it was very hard to deposit hard earned dollars into some Montreal bank account......)   but I did have a couple of you secretly view a photo or two for me to help me see if it was for real, and if I really was  crazy.........thank you...and yes, I am crazy?!!!

SO, I AM BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!  Oh my god, sorry, but I am just thrilled, I have missed you all so much...............;-D

And of course I have some pictures..........and will know the hull # when the papers arrive to me.  She's a registered vessel also.....so no PST on them, I have now discovered!  Her arrival date should be in a week or so, and I will put her on the hard for bit while I figure out where to keep her, as I had not planned on this, so have no moorage at the moment!!!  But with her on a trailer, my options are so much more wide open.......

Ok, I have to get back to work - (still no one I know understands the love of boats, and especially the Co26 - and NO ONE BUT YOU GUYS KNOW I AM DOING THIS,  heh heh...)

So, you will see ALOT of  me again!!...........as I will have ALOT of projects and things "to do"  boy oh boy, FUN and Exciting........I will make my new love as beautiful as my previous one.....she'll simply be older and wiser, like me....

Thank you all again for your support......you spurred  me on to keep my chin up and pursue my dream and continue the hunt.....and I was successful, I have to tell you, I never thought I'd find a boat for that price.......TALK TO YOU ALL LATER!!!

I had the lexan as well as wood, and used the lexan 100% of the time.  Reason: they are super strong, let light in, and at night while inside the boat, I would put up either the inner canvas cover (velcro strips attached very tidily to inside) or the outside canvas that hung over whole hatch very nicely, just slipped small strings on corners over winches on hump.  Snaps at the bottom kept it all tight in windy weather.

From what I understand, the post 1983 boats only lowered the sole by about 1", and raised the coach roof by about the same, 1", you can barely see a slight rise on coachroof around mast step.

You just may be allergic to something in it too, Peter!   I noticed the smell, but would always have a port open when using it.  (never ran it while under way)  If you are only lighting at dock, have a port or part of hatch boards open, and see if that helps...fresh air is a surprisingly powerful thing!  ;-)

I agree with Bill, I had the Origo with gimbals, and you need to be able to open the entire lid regularly, so you don't want the stove sliding out of gimblas that may not quite fit?!
If old ones are hard to get out, I just bought myself an impact drive (great deal at Home Depot, couldn't resist) it will remove bolts of any kind, with no damage or effort or stripping of bolt heads, etc!  Then you can mount proper gimbals.

Ok, free pics of sleek, shiny, newly machined pintles and a REAL third gudgeon...new owner of my boat has someone (have asked who, waiting for answer)  doing an amazing job....(I am very happy about that part of things)
And I am trying to figure from the pictures which gudgeons are new and which are just polished...I'll get that answered too.  (Ummm, doesn't everyone paint their pintles/gudgeons with bottom paint, like me?!)

Yesiree, there is one nice set of pintles and gudgeons on that boat now!  .....oh, heavens, listen to me, quick, someone hide me so they don't lock me up!  :-b

I am waiting for the name of the fellow who did the machining, I know there will be a lineup....he did an amazing job with that third abomination they called "the third pintle gudgeon" but was really just a threaded bolt jammed in upside down into some extra goop of fibreglass?!

Anyways, whomever wants pics, I have them....(it's like a child I've given up for adoption, I am still right in there...)

Heh heh, I liked those cannons in Master and Commander, too!
What I find is the loud fellows (always lots of red color on those boats, it seems, either the hull, or canvas, or lettering or numbers...strange!) handicap themselves by tripping over all the beer cans they always seem to empty while they are racing, doubling the handicap again!

Some builder always messes things up for us know it alls!  (Speaking only for myself, of course! ;-D

Eh, no problem!  I too end up wandering like that...my favorite was just heading for the horizon in my boat, and then turning around when it got dark...never knowing what I would find or what the weather would do, but ready for anything...and yes, talking to myself and the boat the whole time!  Are you a Gemini too by any chance?!

I figure sharing the horror is the only fair thing to do!

"Hey, look at me, I'm putting my mast in the water, can you?!"    or

"Hey, look at me, my halyard is running 100 mph through my jam cleats that aren't! "   And, let's not forget:

"Oh, hey, did you know the stock Barient winches we are using for the main halyard come apart for servicing all on their own during storms?!"

Yup, 1983 started the lead, the 2nd hatch, the lower sole and raised coachroof, ETC!!!  ;-)

Yup, 3/8th for me too.  Fat enough so it doesn't burn through flesh to the bone when reefing in a hurry, but thin enough to wrap three times around mast winch so it gets tightened down hard enough...nothing like watching it bag out when you want it flat...heh heh...can you say knockdown?! :-O

Yes, matching sets, one on each side, sure do help! ;-)
I had a simple block, had no idea what it was, and I never even adjusted it, as I was too busy getting the reefing down fast!!!  (ie: chicken)   I would have started to adjust it this year, but then realized, when cleaning boat, one would not move, so it was on top of list this year.  I had it initally set it for when headsail was furled to about 110, so I now realize I could have had a better sail set when the genny was all the way out to 135%, but hey, it either blows 30k here or 5k...and I am always more concerned when it is blowing 30k so just left them there for now! ;-)

New owner of my ex-boat won't be installing the Navik until next year.  However, July issue of PBO, the UK mag, shows David Rainsbury and his mounting ideas of his Navik, a great issue.

Ok, the new owner of my old boat has completely replaced pintles and gudgeons, and they look fantastic (I saw a picture...yes, I've met the new owner)   He has replaced the pin "bolts" with nice, non-threaded pins, and he is (or already has...he was having it made) replacing that weird pintle/gudgeon frankenstein JJ Taylor added on the bottom when they decided "better add another one"....
The surveyor said the rudder had alot of play, which...I did not think it did, and i am picky, but perhaps it did, as I sailed her almost every day, and of course would not notice minute bits of play as the months wore on...and I did replace those bolts in 2005...a year is a long time.  If any of you want to see the new pintle/gudgeon, let me know and I'll tell new owner to send pics...perhaps he has already joined the board...

Talk about a boat owner talking to herself and figuring it out herself and answering herself, all in one lonely thread! ;-)

Guffaw, Jose!!

My handicap/phrf was 301!!!  But, I have not yet used a cruising chute, and all sails were five years or older, so I think that was part of it.    So, I could actually finish in top three even if I came in almost dead last: as one guy said as he tried to ram my boat...."you mean I have to give you 30 minutes?!?!"   I secretly smiled but looked at him dumbly and said "whatever do you mean?  Like I'm going to even finish this race", and that satisfied him, har har, and I came in fourth, just behind him...

Heh, heh, I too never liked to get the head dirty, so to speak!  I just use a plastic grocery bag (or two if they are flimsy) lining the bowl, and then put it inside another plastic bag before discarding it! ;-)

I was fanatic about the late Rhiannon's holding tank, I would empty it out and then rinse it out and spray Fantastik cleaner in it, etc....and no, I never had any sort of smell.

Plus, keeping the head surfaces spotless and dry really helps keep all smells out, except where it should be wet: the hose leading from bowl: which I always poured fresh water into and then deodorizer enzyme (whichever was on sale! ;-)

I had the mainsheet re-done with my traveller, I think Stefan your traveller/blocks are original?  My bimini zipped to aft end of dodger, then aft end of bimini clipped to aft of boom, with a curved metal tube aft.  Can send you pics if you'd like!
